OP,
Unless you are a professional body builder, at 5-11 192 pounds, you should focus on dieting. There is no training that can help you as much as dropping weight.

any thoughts, i'm 44 and i'm done with 100/200, can't be bothered with the gym.
sorry, should add 5'11" 141 lbs
You could have given Dawn Sowell a run for her money.
Interesting you could move up and run relatively fast 5K
i understand
time to move on to a new chapter in your life
49 (50 in a month, before the Nationals!)
5'11" 142 lbs.
Masters PR's
800 2:00
1500 4:00
Mile 4:21
5k 15:39
10k 32:20
Marathon 2:29
Pr's all came in early 40's. Trying to get fit for Nationals.
Age 41. 5'6". 131 lbs. (Currently injured), 128-29 when in shape.
5K Road, 15:31
5000, 15:29
8K (XC), 26:43. Ran 25:57 at age 39
10K, 33:17
1/2 Mar., 1:12:45
Marathon, 2:39:32. Ran 2:32:12 at age 39
5K, 8K and 10K were set last year at age 40. The marathon and half marathon were set this year at age 41. I ran two 5000's leading up to my marathon in March in 15:52 and 15:49. My plan was to get back on the track after my marathon in March, but I got injured and have not been able to train consistently. ITB and piriformis issues.
My goal right now is to get rid of my injuries and get back to running pain free.
5'9" 142, a few weeks shy of 44
800, 2:14 (2:22 prior to 2010)
1500, 4:31 (4:48)
Mile, 4:53 (5:03)
3000, 9:45 (9:58)
5000, 16:59
8k, 28:35 (29:00)
I credit the recent PRs to improved core strength and accepting a little more pain. One way to evaluate your strengths is to put one of your times in the MacMillan calculator or age-graded tables and see how the others compare.
All road:
5k: 17:26
10k: 37:00
Marathon: 2:53
I am finding that I can run lots of mileage and tempo stuff, but always end up with some ache or pain when doing fast intervals. Sadly, I think I may try an ultra or two (50k-50 mi, none of that crazy all day stuff over mountains).
Pete, sorry to hear you haven't been feeling "on"
Hope ya get it worked out.
Age 46 - 6 feet / 160 lbs
2009
1500 Indoor track meet - 4:27 (45)
Road Mile - 4:43 (45)

This year
5k road - 16:56
10 miler - 59:48 (sick with a cold)
Goal is sub-2:45 at CIM in December
I notice that most everyone on this thread is much better at the shorter stuff and drop off the longer they go. I find that interesting. AS I have gotten older I have tried to put in much more aerobic work and now my times line up a little better the longer I go.
Almost a decade now as a Masters competitor (48) with some years better than others.

50 Mile (Split)7:12 (41)
100 Mile (Split) 15:09 (41)
I haven't really tried to run a fast race marathon or shorter in a few years.
I'm hanging in there at 52, but aiyaii! some fast times in this group. I am humbled.
just under 5'10", race weight 148 to 152.
400 - 60 or 61 (40)
800 - 2:09.1 (40)
1500 - 4:20.0 (41)
mile - 4:38.9 (40)
5K - 16:21 (42)
10K - 34:07 (40)
1/2 Marathon 1:17:50 (41)
Marathon - 2:44:24 (41)
With that mile time at 40 I was hoping to run sub 16 for 5K, 33:40 or faster for 10K, and under 2:40 for marathon, but never put it together before facing a long-term set of injuries from age 42 through 45. And then I got even slower.
I only started back to running at age 46 (starting weight 200+ lbs), after a 26 year hiatus. I'm 50 now (6'0", 162 lbs), and times have still been coming down. These PR's are all from last season (2009), except the 1600m this winter:
1600m: 5:15.7 (indoors, 12lap track, had to lap lot's of kids)
5k: 17:41
10k: 36:32
15k: 56:54 (very small race)
HM: 1:20:11
M: 3:02:07 (only my second ever marathon, had a bad day)
As for best potential event:
For me, on 45-50 MPW, I think it is around 10k. (I can't seem to get the mileage up to compete well in the HM and M without straining something.)
For you, at your weight, I'd say 400m, but if you shed some pounds, you could move up and do quite well.
27-35 miles a week with a few weeks in the 40-45 range.
Right now I slowed things down a bit over the last 30 days and have run 10 out of every 11 days for 60-70 minutes which has pushed my mileage up. I am running during Lunch and I am just working on Leaning out a bit and it seems to be working. I hope to continue this for the next 30 days or so and then mix in some other work.
I would like to run under 36:17 for 10K(10 minutes within the men's world record) and I think getting to this fitness level I can put all my other over 40 PR's under threat.
44, 5'10", 163lbs
100: no idea yet, 12.9 rolling start in strides
200: 28ish in workouts
400: 60.0 last year
800: 2:14 (horribly mispaced)
1500: 4:15
3000m: 9:05 (last month)
3000m s/c: 10:21 (last week)
5k: 16:39 on dirt
Had my best winter in 15 years, hoping to revise a few.
For a bit more fun, what events have you never done seriously, and therefore might get genuine lifetime PBs? How do you feel about having a go?
I have never as an adult tried:
- 110m hurdles
- 400 hurdles
- shot, discus, javelin
- pole vault
- triple jump
The 110 hurdles and triple jump are probably a bit of an injury risk. I don't think I've run a 100 or 200 since teens and PBs might be possible there too...
you rmeinded me old steepler of a few other post 40 bests
high jump (42) 1.60
Steeple (42) normal - 10.03, low steeples (9.44)
triple jump (41) 10.47
javelin (40)- around 14 to 16 m I think
shot put (40 something) around 5 or 6 metres
i don't think I would try the other events you mentioned
400-68
Mile-5:32
5K-17:44
10K-37:59
12K- 45:48
15K-58:33
1/2 Marathon- 1:22:14
Marathon-3:09:28
5-10 145 pounds. All of these times were achieved between age 41 and age 45.My best distance, who the hell knows?
