Anton is spinning a little here. He doesn't run that much. Trust me, I know. He's a badass, but he's propagating myth here as much as Dean Karnazes does.
That was actually a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. I took away a lot of similarities from his perspective that I employ on most of my runs. Albeit my runs are quite a bit less in duration and conceivably my perspective much less in breadth and/or depth.
It strikes me that these ultra marathoners are the running porn stars of our day. They do the same things as us...just a whole lot more of it...in that relentless ennui way that only porn films can achieve…to the point of making it…interesting?

He doesn't run HOW much? What myth is he propagating in this interview?
His training over the last five months is all on-line at antonkrupicka.blogspot.com. 2200 miles in the first four months of the year with several weeks in the 150-170 range, all with absolutely insane amounts of elevation change in Boulder, CO.
What happens when he's out on the trails--15 miles out--and he sprains his ankle? No technology in that case sounds like one hell of a long limp.Take that minimalism.
And his blog is verified by independent sources. Geez. I forgot that point! How could I have missed that? Mea Culpa
You are obviously ignorant of the advantages of minimalism. Lower shoe profile = FEWER ankle rolls.

That old leathery man went the way of the Greek economy.

I don't understand this comment. Is the poster suggesting that there's something odd about NOT running with a telephone in case you want to call a rescue crew to get airlifted back home?

Agreed. Sounds like someone has never been running other than on a track or a sidewalk.
"But still, I think most people who get mad at Dean Karnazes, have some kind of subconscious jealousy in them"
-best quote in the article. I think he was pointing right at Letsrun when he said that.haha.

i was intrigued with his comments on new balance's new "minimus" line of shoes. i've been doing nearly all my running in the NB 790s and 100s for a few years now, and the trail minimus might be the next step along this path.
I have also been running in the 790s and 100s, they are great shoes. My interest is certainly piqued for the trail minimus.
The Tarahumara should call out Anton Krupicka. Fastest white dude doesn't mean shit in this sport.
I know that running store owner! What great advice.

Ha ha, the feats of the Tarahumara have been vastly overstated. Anton has run over an hour faster than the fastest Tarahumara at the Leadville 100.
Anton Krupicka: I ran my first marathon when I was 12...
Through high school, I knew I wanted to do more marathons, but I didn’t do my first marathon until I was a sophomore in college.
Huh?
Sorry but you're an idiot. He is out there running that much. Everyone here in Boulder sees him out there every day.

I agree, it sounds like contrived poetry to me.
