Training for a marathon a few weeks ago I couldn't finish a run after severe pain bearing weight on my left foot. Went to the doctor the next day and he said I probably had a stress fracture. X-ray showed nothing but bone scan confirms it, 3rd metatarsal. Doctor says I should to be in the aircast boot for 8 weeks and no running for 12 weeks. Overly conservative? I have a trip coming up (7-8) weeks after injury so he agreed to see me before that to re-evaluate.
It's been 3 weeks now in the Aircast walking boot. At this point I have no pain when using the walking boot and I can walk pain free without it as long as I don't put much pressure on the ball of my foot. I'm wondering how long it might take to be pain free enough just to walk without the boot, and maybe hiking some mountains or biking. At this point I'm not curious when I can run again since I'm more in a rush to get out of this boot and resume some semblance of other activities I love:
Hiking, Biking etc.
As long as I can do something I will be happy but right now I'm being told swimming only.
