Centrowitz used a strong kick over the final 150 meters to bring the crowd of 6,118 to its feet as he won the featured Twilight Mile with a time of 3 minutes, 59.33 seconds, barely holding off Oregon Track Club Elite’s Russell Brown at 3:59.38.
UO freshman Mac Fleet was a half-step behind in third place at 3:59.88, bringing the all-time total of Oregon sub-4-minute milers to 30.

He runs along alone at night. Thinking about when his legs will fight. Fight for the win, in that one great race. He knows in his heart he must keep the pace. So when it is done, over and dead. It will be easy at night to rest his head. But in his dreams he will race again. He see the sweet finish as he rounds the bend.
Yes. Not that many of the UO sub-4:00's are indoor (they've only competed indoors in recent years). Since Fleet ran sub-4:00 indoors, if the 30 sub-4:00's only now includes him, those are all outdoor miles.

Went to the meet and just got back from Eugene. IMO, it wasn't that great of run for Centrowitz. I think he is capable of 3:57 in those kind of ideal conditions.
But in watching the race, it doesn't appear an all-out PR type race was ever Centrowitz's goal. I agree he's capable of 3:57 in those conditions, but think when you look at how the race was run it was a good run for Centro.
...If you read all the quotes from the various sources, the Oregon guys all trained through this meet...
The goal was to get under four outdoors, and not much more...

Does anyone have a link to the Oregon sub-4 list?
The problem with these lists is that they always miss a few. The University of Oregon claims 30. However, if you add in Oregon graduates who run sub 4 after college, you can double the number. Here is an interesting stat:
Based on malmo's numbers and wikipedia's info, here is the number of sub-4s per million in population.
1. Oregon 4.803

Interesting stats. Looks like Alaska may break it's drought with Dunbar soon. I guess Don Clary didn't go under?
Of course, it's too bad these lists don't include sub-3:42 1500's....
Interesting, but I'm looking for the current, all-time, University of Oregon sub-4 list. Just guys who broke four minutes while attending school at Oregon.
I don't doubt there are many who made the list after graduating or dropping out, when all they had to do was hang out in Eugene and train. I'm looking for the guys who were able to accomplish this while attending classes.
These are from the UofO media guide.
1. Joaquim Cruz
2. Steve Prefontaine
3. Dub Myers
4. Dave Wilborn
5. Roscoe Divine
6. Jim Hill
7. Rudy Chapa
8. Dyrol Burleson
Archi San Romani
10. Knut Kvalheim
11. Paul Geis
12. Andrew Wheating
13. Keith Forman
14. Arne Kvalheim
Mark Feig
16. Jim Bailey
Scott Daggatt
18. Gary Barger
19. Bill McChesney Jr.
20. Matt Centrowitz
Steve Savage
22. Colin Dalton
23. Steve Fein
24. Harold Kuphaldt
25. Rick Bergesen
26. Mike Blackmore
27. Wade Bell
28. Lars Kaupang
With Andrew Wheating in 2008 being the most recent addition.
Nice list, but apparently they have lost count. The UO Media Guide says there are 28 (with Wheating), and the press reports say there are now 30, with Centro Jr., and Mac Fleet. What they are missing are the guys who broke 4 last season: Rupp and MacNamara, so they actually have 32.
