I doubt it goes under 3:37.5. No one will want to lead into the wind that always blows down the backstretch. Besides, Oregon runners are peaking for NCAAs.
good prediction. i agree.

Yeah, it's only in-season marks.
Jennings, Stember, Berryhill, have run in the 3:35's in Europe while collegians.
Willis (3:32) and Lagat (3:30) ran schorching times before graduating and many more have run sub-3:35 during their college careers.
For tonight, I think we'll see 2 guys in the 35's, one guy in the 36's and a few in the 37's.
Tim Hacker ran 3:35 back in the mid-1980s, but after NCAAs, which is the marker that T&FNews uses; NCAA does not keep official records, I do not think.

That's a great point and the way wheating walked him down on the DMR 1600 makes it even more likely that he can get it. I believe the CR's has to be set in the collegiate season, but I'm not sure how late they allow the season to last. Anyone know?
But that makes me think that there is an even better chance that this can happen tonight, despite it not being a Euro drag race affair.
And the way Andrews walked Wheating down TWICE makes it even more likely Andrews will get the record. See how stupid Duck logic can be?

bernard lagat ran 3:30.56 for 1500 meters in zurich in 1999, and since he graduated in 2000, the record should be 3:30.56.
also jim ryun ran 3:33.1 for 1500 meters as a 19 year old competing for the university of kansas, also there was a runner at mt.st.marys a division 2 school named kip cheruiyiot who ran a 3:33.07 in the 1980's.
anyways my prediction for wheating is he wont get either lagat's NCAA record or ryun's fastest NCAA 1500 by an american, this weekend but wheating will run a very good 3:34.5 this weekend.
Sorry but Lagat turned pro that summer right before he started throwing down those hot times in Europe. He gave up his scholarship and senior year, took his winnings and used it to pay for finishing college.

Lets be honest here. Team ROGUE has sucks it up so far. This is the only race where I've seen one of them run a decent time. In the TX Relay's 5k, 3 of them took it out much harder than the front pack of college guys and all quit halfway through. The other time I've seen them race, they got their buts handed to them by a local elite in Austin. If these guys are pro, they should be finishing races, beating the college guys, and at least should be beating local guys. Come on now. I thought UnderArmour would be able to attract/afford a couple decent reps. Maybe they have and things just have not clicked... I'm not going to be too cynical here.
There were some solid performances in this race but I didn't see anything that indicated there was a record attempt being made. A record was possible with that much talent in one race but I didn't see anyone going for it with the possible exception of Emanuel.
Anyone got any background on the Army guy?

Credit where it's due: tha winnah!
Yes Tim Hacker ran the 1500 the summer before his senior year at 3:35 something. At the time I believed TnF News called it the American Collegiate record.
What I don't get is how Chris Solinsky gets credited for the Wisconsin School record in the 5000 at 13:12 when it was after NCAA'S, USTAF, and far after his graduation from Wisconsin.
Joe Falcon ran 3:35 his junior year at a meet the second week of April. 1988 I believe.

Because Wisconsin, like most schools, doesn't give a f*** what Track and Field News says.
Track and Field News' standards for records is inconsistent. They count high school records after the high school season, and well into the Summer. But for 'collegiate' records
I thought Centro was supposed to be in this race?
