A) There is no Wheating VS. Andrews over 1500 meters so take that to the other thread regarding them at 800.

B) Andrews has only beat Wheating when Wheating kicked with 100 or less, and that is in 800 so no applicable to the 1500 race tonight.

C) No predictions for a fast 1500 race rather than commenting on slow 800s?

That's a great point and the way wheating walked him down on the DMR 1600 makes it even more likely that he can get it. I believe the CR's has to be set in the collegiate season, but I'm not sure how late they allow the season to last. Anyone know?

I'm not a 10K guy, but I'd venture that running 10-15 laps alone in a 10K into even a moderate headwind is has fatigue factor far greater than perhaps having to lead one straight away in a 1500. I'm assuming they'll have rabbits and we know wheating or centro won't be leading before the last lap.

Lee may have to take the lead for a lap or two and that makes me think they still have a chance even in a moderate wind because when he goes he goes hard and he's not stupid enough to wait for the last 200-300 with wheating and centro in the race.

Yeah, it's only in-season marks.

Jennings, Stember, Berryhill, have run in the 3:35's in Europe while collegians.

Willis (3:32) and Lagat (3:30) ran schorching times before graduating and many more have run sub-3:35 during their college careers.

For tonight, I think we'll see 2 guys in the 35's, one guy in the 36's and a few in the 37's.

bernard lagat ran 3:30.56 for 1500 meters in zurich in 1999, and since he graduated in 2000, the record should be 3:30.56.

also jim ryun ran 3:33.1 for 1500 meters as a 19 year old competing for the university of kansas, also there was a runner at mt.st.marys a division 2 school named kip cheruiyiot who ran a 3:33.07 in the 1980's.

anyways my prediction for wheating is he wont get either lagat's NCAA record or ryun's fastest NCAA 1500 by an american, this weekend but wheating will run a very good 3:34.5 this weekend.

You might be in range with your time prediction, but I say as an 800M runner he ties up pretty good in last 25M and ends up getting out-kicked, by one of the 1500M runners!

Watching that link in the OP, I doubt it. Wheating is definitely more of a miler anyway. The dude was 70th at NCAA cross while not even training for cross country and just racing the Pac-10's and NCAA's. He's also taken centro in cross country over 4 miles.

Having said that, Centro did beat him at Pac-10's last year in the 1500 when they both close in :52. Wheating closed faster and certainy harder over the last 100 but ran out of track, he was also doubling with the 800 then. Tonight will be their first real matchup in a fast 1500 maybe ever.

Anyone care to attach names to the times? Makes it a little more interesting in retrospect.

I doubt it goes under 3:37.5. No one will want to lead into the wind that always blows down the backstretch. Besides, Oregon runners are peaking for NCAAs.

You may be right but if they said they are thinking of the record they must have a rabbit and i really doubt any of the post collegiates or Lee want to wait around to have Centro and Wheating stomp them over the last 200 meters in front of the home crowd. Basically the rest of the field would have to make it honest earlier to have any chance of winning and they should have help from a rabbit in the beginning.

The real x-factor is the rabbit because if he fails (and it often happens) it's too much to bite off. If the rabbit is slow I think they can get down to 3:37 but if he's on pace I still think that 3:35 is doable, possibly more.

Jim Ryun was a soph going to be a junior when he set the world record of 3:33.1 in July 1967.

there are jr. records, national records and collegiate records. it makes sense that collegiate records would need to be set during a collegiate season.
