You don't know where Bernard is in his training cycle. If he started a 10 week cycle right after World Indoors, he wouldn't be sharp right now.
But this is what happens when you fart around with that mileage crap. Lagat is a guy who doesn't do well with high mileage--so says his coach, Dr. Li. Lagat has won FOUR medals in the last two world outdoor championships and made the mileage proponents here and elsewhere look like the loser jerks they are, and many people coaching middle distance, myself included, have learned from him and adopted some of his methods.
He experiments once with this slow mileage crap (and for HIM, 10 miles in 58 minutes is SLOW), and you see the results.
People on letsrun should be learning from Lagat (but they don't want to work that hard) not the other way around.
