The body is capable of 1:59, but whether her mind convinces it to do it is the question.
Two laps for a sprinter hurts; a lot.

Sanya richards-ross tweeted that she is going to run an 800m this weekend at the MJ classic in Waco. what do you predict she'll run?
She has run under 50 seconds in the quarter something like 60 times, but she never runs the 8, so I'm going to say she goes 2:06.35
Well, I saw a 40 year old woman run 54.58 and 2:00.42 indoors this season who is clean so Sanya Richards better break 2 flat.
Even with drugs i cant believe women ran this fast and yet we have had so few come close to touching these.
400 47.60 Marita Koch (East Germany)
800 1:53.28 Jarmila Kratochvílová (Czechoslovakia)
But i just want to point out that Kratochvilova is #2 on the 400 list at 47.99
'What will she run, I haven't a clue. I don't know ANYTHING about her training'
Miss off the last 3 words and you are there
'the 800m is becoming more and more a sprint '
Actually the times have stopped improving
I think 2.03 easy if she paces it well and possibly 2.02 I don't see her being slower than Nicola Sanders was last year.
I think one of the reasons why people think Wariner has more potential at the 800 than Richards is because she is much better than he is at the short sprints.
Anyone going to the meet? Feel free to email me. I'm only an hour and a half away. I debated driving down, but probably won't make it.
Yeah, my prediction is: it will look like someone dropped a safe on her back at around the 300m mark and the field will file by as she ties up badly, but still run a 202.
Oh come on, Wejo. You gotta get to this meet if you're only 1.5 hrs away.
is wejo married?

yes therefore he will be going to no track meet.
I'll be there at the meet, but Baylor is generally pretty good about getting their results up fast.
I'll have my coach videotape it.

I like 2:06 too, maybe 2:07

Yes, 49.4 and 1:56.mid. Of course we've heard of her.
However, Miles-Clark stopped running the 400 as her primary event and trained specifically for the 800. She had been running the 800 for a couple of years before dropping that 1:56. She didn't do it training as a 400m runner. Also, Miles-Clark was "only" a 23.03 200m runner. Sanya is a 22.17 200m runner. This suggests they were 400m runners of different molds.
Not saying Sanya is not capable of something very good, but she's not training as an 800 runner.
Jearl Miles-Clark was definitely a fine 400/800 runner, but was hurt at major championships when she had to run multiple rounds on consecutive days.
Sanya Richards 2:06.8
You people are always on about 400 runners converting to 800. A more intreging (sp) conversion would be from 400 hurdles to 800. I salivate at what Bershawn "Batman" Jackson could do at 800. He has more of a middle distance running form.
Any thoughts on this?
Batman's run several 800's.
Just a couple weeks ago he ran one in Florida I think. 1:53 or so I think.
Wejo, please, please pitch in a letsrun.com singlet for the closest prediction.
This is totally speculative, but-----
I don't think Richards would run any faster than 50.5-51.0 right now. To me this means she could cruise through 400 in 58-59. holding this to 600 would put her at 1:28+/-. However, if she is doing 400 training, she would be out of steam with 250 to go and would tie up badly and run a 36 to 38 final 200. This means a 2:06 in my book. I think this is the best for a competitive race. If she is doing the race for strength training only then I see he coming through 400 at about 62 and finishing with a 66 to get a final time of 2:08.
Id like to see her run a 2:03 though. That final 200 is going to tell the story. that's my 2 cents. FWIW
2;11ish
she is going to run the first 400 at the end of the lead pack and gut her way in- the front will run 2:04/5 at best

Wow, what a track fan.
For somebody that constantly preaches to people about making track popular again and going out to meets, you're sure doing your part.
VIPAM wrote:Yeah I know her sprint capabilities but the 800m is becoming more and more a sprint and within the next ten years you will see more 400m and even some 200m runners moving up successfully mid/late in their careers to the 800m.
drivel
you don't think the gals of the '80s, when 200/400 times were far superior to this era didn't think about doing the same when there 22.0 or 49.5 were getting them nowhere ???
