Do depressed people smoke marijuana or do smoking it make you depressed?
What is the secret behind pot, is it escapism? Is there anyway it could be generally agreed upon that someone is okay smoking?

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are pretty successful. Neither one of them seems depressed.
everyone smokes pot
Truthfully? Truly repectable people may smoke pot on occasion. Nobody that regularly tokes up is really successful. Just my opinion. go ahead potheads...flame away.
Ummm... ever heard of the music industry?
Ummm... ever heard of the film industry?
Yes, you can smoke pot and be successful.

Successful pot smokers are all around you. They just don't tell you they're potheads.
In order to smoke pot, you must be successful. If you look at global pot use it predominantly occurs in areas with a decent income.
When you don't smoke, it seems like no one does. When you do smoke, it seems like everyone does....
If anyone does an illegal drug, they should be punished to he full extent of the law. I'm talking to you, bi*ch wasteoids.

Punishing anyone for pot is a complete waste of tax money and police resources. Besides, in many states it's not hard to be a legal user. Montana has a medical MJ law and has more than 10,000 registered patients. That's more than 1% of its population.
almost exclusively.
This is completely true-
My father is a high school drop out and now in his mid 60's. He started his own business and now has a salary around 400,000 a year,so our the household is pretty well off in addition to my moms pay check. Since I could remember, my father has smoked weed. Although we don't talk about it, it is pretty clear he knows I know. As he has gotten older, he has cut back but there is always weed in the house.
I use to smoke in high school, but don't anymore.
Of course successful people smoke pot. All you ever hear about in the media around pot are "stoners" who sit on the couch all day and eat Doritos. But thats cherry picking the pot smokers who abuse it. Is everyone that drinks alcohol a bunch of dead beat alcoholics?
The last two people I smoked pot with were successful businesswomen well into their 30s. They essentially did it to chill at the end of the day. It was better than a martini.
The answer is a resounding YES. I come from a liberal, upper middle class background where plenty of successful parents still smoke (I am 24). Some of them are, I dunno, weirder or more off beat than your average 'successful' lawyer or doctor-type person, and they sort of have a way of being secretive about it, but this is only because pot smoking is still not socially acceptable.
On the other hand, drinking, in excess, is entirely socially acceptable. And for every well-adjusted, pot smoking adult I know, I know of 3 adults who have ruined their own lives (not to mention the lives of others) with alcohol. When was the last time you heard of a pothead smoking himself to death or beating the shit out of his wife and kids after getting high?
The choice is yours. Personally, I look forward to a time when pot is legalized and de-stigmatized, at least relative to alcohol, which will probably never be seen for the poison it truly is.
Carl Sagan.
a good friend had a somewhat friendship with steven soderburgh for a couple years and said he was high all the time. i found it hard to believe given how productive soderburgh is, but that's what he says. still, barring musicians and artists, he must be more the exception than the norm.

I smoked pot a few times, but it didn't do much to/for me. My friends said I needed some practice to get it right, at which point I decided that smoking pot wasn't going to be something I would put work into. So I don't think I've ever been high on pot. But last summer I went swimming in some natural cold springs with another friend. After getting out of the cold water and sitting in the bright midday summer sun, our muscles felt relaxed beyond our conscious control (i.e., only if we were suddenly pumped full of fear hormones could we have moved quickly) and our minds were practically clear of any worldly worries. She said it was like being stoned. So that's what I go by. It's a way to relax, which is why I don't buy it when people call it "escapism" and act like that's a terrible vice. Everyone does something to escape. Yeah, of course there are some stoners who seem to lead unproductive, misspent lives, but the same could be said of gamers. Or runners.
don't do it. isn't it illegal?
Tim Lincecum and Michael Phelps are fairly successful.
