Yeah you're right, it is a totally level playing field. Oregon has the same advantage as other schools, yup you are right. They don't have superior facilities because of Nike, they don't have better coaches because of Nike, nope they have none of those. Everything is just by chance. The fact that Oregon didn't win outdoors last year shows how little they accomplish with so much that they have.
You are an idiot; they in fact have inferior facilities to many schools.
Ye4s, Knight and Bowerman did a few things...before Dellinger retired, and Smith was shuffled along -- but the fueds between Bowerman and Dellinger, and the philosophical disagreement beween Knight et. al, and Dellinger/Smith resulted in inferior facilities.
I ran there; I know, d-bag, and I also visited and competed at many other schools who had superior facilities.
Oregon's indoor field house is a joke compared to at least 2 dozen other colleges with actual indoor tracks, heated indoor facilities etc.
The straight facts are that while Hayward Field is a great venue, Hayward Field as a training facility offers zero advantage to most other schools. (The only advantage being that it recently has been resurfaced/replaced more regularly than some school).
In fact for many, many years the track at Hayward was so old and hard it was actually a piece of crap to train on. And then some genius had the idea to take out the dirt track -- so runners had no soft oval for long intervals.
You make it sound like every single runner at Oregon has an alter-g and an altitude chamber -- and that just ain't the case.
The cool weather, is also a put off to sprinters from hot climates. 4 great sprinters can take you closer to an NCAA title than 14 mid and distance runners of whom maybe 2 can score over 6 points at NCAA's.
It is incredibly challenging to recruit to Eugene, with measly scholarships, cold, wet weather, etc.
Yeah, a few athletes come because of the heritage of the school and distance running; a supportive community, and some marginal improvements.
What Nike has given to the new Basketball arena to replace Mac court, Dwarf's what Nike has given to Oregon track and field (as generous as they have been).
