How is it that versatility is rarely even mentioned here. Dathan is showing world class talent on the track, the roads, and in x-c. Maybe GF's pr's might be subjectively more impressive in track, he's nowhere close to dathans league in cross country at this stage in his career. Not mention that dathan is showing constant progression from the high school level thru world class levels in all respective areas of running, whereas GF is only one of the top talents in the NC's. Nothing taken away from him, but talent should be measured to the degree that results are proven, not just potential. How many times is the notion of the next great prodigy brought up every year for them to only fade into obscurity. Dathan has had his setbacks but continues to move beyond them to improve. German aint even in his league yet.[
German is how much younger than Ritz? That is not a fair way to judge it at all. I agree that in XC, German isn't close to Ritz. He could be, take away his national race freshman year and he had a hell of a season. He just has to stay healthy. You run 13:25, you're going to be good at cross.
If we want to talk about what they had accomplished up to where German is now (sophomore in college) it's tough to argue against the HSR in the 2 mile (Ritz couldn't get close), NCAA title, WJR in the indoor mile and AJR in the 5000. Ritz had his Footlocker victories, 4th in NCAA cross, 4th in the 5000 at NCAAs and his great 13:27 which were all amazing performances but I don't think you can say he accomplished more than German or is more talented.
In the end both guys are great and we should be rooting for both of them to do well.
