I love Lagat, I loved the enthusiasm with which he battled El Guerrouj but as fate would have it, we all succumb to the effects of old age.
With the way the American qualification system is set up, Lagat won't win a medal in 2012.
He'll have to be in good enough shape to make the qualifying standard (which he certainly will be), then he'll have to "peak" to make the team, and then sustain/reach another peak to make it through the qualifying rounds and have enough gas left for the finals.
A tough feat for a man of his age or any American runner for that matter. But that is a topic for another discussion.
