Ok, my other friends heading off to D1 schools to run in college are talking about what we need to be eligible. There is much debate and gnashing of teeth. Some clarification would be appreciated. We are specifically referring to what we need to do now or have done before the season starts, so that we are all set... in high school we just needed a permission slip :).

Run, don't walk, to NCAA.org.
Go to Rules & eligibility link on left side of home page, then check out:
Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse
Student-Athlete Eligibility and Recruiting (FAQ -- Initial Eligibility)
Main thing is that you need to have provided the NCAA Clearinghouse with (1) a FINAL transcript showing completion of 13 High School Core Courses (as defined by the NCAA) and that you have been awarded your diploma, and (2) your SAT/ACT scores.
Call your college's compliance officer if you have questions. -
You should have already had your scores sent to the Clearinghouse, but this can still be done if you haven't sent them yet. Basically, you just need to ride your guidance counselor's ass until she does all the work for you. Bake her some cookies and tell her what a nice back side she has when you're done. Same thing if she's a he.
Your school's compliance officer will let you know when you're ok for competition. Just make sure it gets done before you compete. -
Thanks, that is just what I needed to know
