exactly! funny how they forget that salazar was born in cuba and came here when he was 3 years old. The only reason that they would put him in and not Meb is that Salazar is white.
meb and lagat are as american as the rest of us. perhaps more so since their families made the hard trek to get out of somewhere bad to come here.

There is no contest here about who deserves the #1 spot, and none of you have mentioned her yet.
Doris Brown Heritage
-5 time world cross country champion
-14 time US champion
-world Record Holder- 440, 880, mile, 3k
Most dominant runner of all time. end of story.

those 5 world xc were in a row `67-71,2x olympian-17, and she was second to Miki Gorman in NYC Marathon too
zero olympic medals though eliminates her from consideration. :) It is pretty much impossible to compare her and guys like Jim Lightbody (4 gold and 2 silvers for a US distance guy) to the modern runners.

What Olympic event did you wish Miss Brown Heritage to medal in?
Your honorable mention in 10K through marathon should include Flanagan.

There are a lot of names here but I don't think anyone has mentioned former marathon world record holders Buddy Edelen (the first American under 2:20) or Albert Michelsen (first human under 2:30).
Check out this list of the Greatest Marathoners on Rankopedia: Edelen is 5th and Michelsen is 9th.

Flanagan
Then I suggest you study the history of the sport on the women's side and you'll find the answer to why she doesn't have a medal.
