what our team heard was that the power was out in a big section of state college, which included around the golf course, and that was the deciding factor in cancelling the meet

Why the heck didnt penn state men run if the women did?
Malmo can't be that thick and not realize that Groves ran the program into the toilet can he?
lock haven yale cornell and cortland dont help their national ranking would be my guess....
So the Cornell men win with Cortland 2nd. Way to go upstate NY.
My question is do they get the at-large point over Georgetown. They should as georgetown forfeited.
If this was basektball and you didn't show, you forfeit.
Gtown is the stanford of the east and i mean that in the pansiest of ways. A few years back they don't even finish 5 guys at NCAAs and now they can't run on a pancake flat course in half an inch of snow.
and i thought it was global warming...

No. The meet that Cornell won was the Lockhaven meet. PSU did not take it over, it was a separate meet.
results say PENN STATE NATIONALS MEN 8K
WEST BRANCH XC COURSE, LOCK HAVEN, PA
the penn state girls showed up... i guess its more important for you guys to shave your vaginas for the minnesota football game tomorrow...
YOU ARE - NOT MEN
YOU ARE - NOT MEN
wait so PSU didnt even go to the lock haven meet which other posters claim to be "snowless and pancake flat" yet complain that an inferior team such as cornell did not win their meet? check the results your coach is a pussy for canceling and youre all pussies for not going to the lock haven meet instead. WHICH used the same scoring officials and chips / numbers as your meet and is titled the penn state nationals meet. quit your complaining your team pussed out.

I heard part of the reason it was cancelled is because trees were falling under the weight of the snow. It would probably be a bad thing if a tree crushed a number of runners or spectators.
According to the Letsrun scholars, anyone not wearing an ipod would easily be able to get out of the way of any falling trees. That would be a poor excuse to cancel a meet.
Meet was cancelled. Lets stop talking about it. Lets talk about that massive snowball fight that took place at the course yesterday morning. I think it was between Cornell, St. Francis, Georgia State, and some others...St.Francis looked like they got their shit rocked!!
Good to hear from a typical Letsrun non-runner complain about everything without any knowledge of anything whatever. Truth is, in the olden days before you were born, our team would have run the race by ourselves even after everyone else went home. Without iPods, compression shorts, arm-warmers, sunglasses and cell phones to text our friends. (insert smilie here)
It was PSU and Marist VS St Francis, with St Francis getting done over. Luckily for them Kentucky turned up and saved their arses.

to be quite honest about the situation this was the earliest snow fall in recorded history at PSU. and was by far the heaviest snow fall for the month of OCTOBER. I think a lot people for get it is October, that most trees still have there leaves on collecting snow making them much heavier and cause branches to break all over the place. The reason groves would not canceled this meet is because he never had to deal with a situation as unexpected as this one. PSU was put in a terrible position and had to do what they did god forbid something happen to any of the runners/officials/spectators. It was really the only choice they had. As for Lock Haven it was far safer do to less snow fall and less trees and for the most part PSU getting this off the ground and making this happen. It was fun and considering it all. I really would have rather run PSU in the snow but I also enjoy be not crushed by fall tree limbs.
Give 'em hell, skwilli ! It may be hard for some to imagine who never ran for 4 years under someone like Coach Groves (actually there's no one like him), but he would have held the damn race. Of that I am sure. Snow, falling trees, blizzard, whatever. And if you wanted to race, fine. And if you didn't, fine, just drag your sorry ass back to your nice warm van and go home. And his teams would have fared well, too. Why? Because they were the "meanest sons a bitches in the valley." I'm not saying it would have been a great decision, those kinds of decisions can backfire, but that's the one he would have made. No one will convince me otherwise.
....I loved that guy, they don't make em like that anymore.
I ran around the course at 7:30 AM - yes, lots of fallen branches - but by no means enough to call a meet. Sure the power went out in State College - funny I still got my wake up call. You can come up with all the lame excuses in the book - but PLEASE is this cross country or what? Speaking from an event management standpoint - if you know ahead of time that incliment weather is going to send your grounds keepers through the roof -- PLEASE STOP holding your cross country meets on golf courses !!!!!! Funny how quickly high school kids that run on every thing from a parking lot to a cow pasture - suddenly can't safely run on anything but perfectly manicured Bremuda. Will someone in the college CC coaching ranks grow a set balls and start running kids on real CC courses.
HALF A FOOT OF SNOW AND CANCEL A RUNNING RACE! What is this country made of? A bit of frost on the windshields and school is cancelled as well. What do you think the army does?
Seargent: Ok, we have some pow's out in canada that we have to go rescue! Oh wait we have to cancel now because we can't send out the troops in half a foot of snow. Too bad for those pow's mother nature won this war.
A race is about the best man crossing the tape first/

You just compared the army to cross country runners?
Runners are a bunch of huge pussies and you know that. What's with you guys trying to make yourselves sound tougher than you are by hyping up how you'd like totally go running in the snow, dude.
Cross country runners are at the bottom of the athletic totem pole. Which I guess is why you whine so much.

What is your problem?
