If it took him 2:30 to finish, he is really slow. The average slow tri guy should finish in about 2 hours. Out of the water in 40 min; bike in 40 min and 40 min for the run.
In my experience, average slow tri guys cannot run anywhere near 40 minutes in the 10k and nobody can time trial 23 miles at 34 mph. Not anywhere near fast times? Are you joking? A strong cyclist will do it in an hour. Meanwhile 40 minutes for a one mile swim seems quite slow for the average triathlete. Even the slow ones.
But average this out to a more even race, but still within your two hour 'slow race' limit: 30:00 Swim, 35:00 Run, 55:00 Bike and you have an extremely fast age grouper. In fact this would probably beat some of your bottom rung pros.
2:30 is not a bad time. The OP will be lucky to finish under three.
