Truly impressive time but at 39 you still had not hit any significant slow down from age.
It's interesting how many threads have popped up lately about modified training for aging runners.
It seems that hitting around age fifty is the true turning point rather than forty, the age that was traditionally thought to be the Rubicon for runners.
Runners around fifty were in high school when Shorter, Rodgers and the rest were booming running, so I suppose it is no mystery that there would be a lot of discussion from the biggest running demographic as they get older.
And, fifty miles per week, most of the year is significant mileage for most masters runners, younger runners prone to injury or recreational runners with more athletic bodies(as opposed to distance running twiggy frames).
