He made the mistake of not looking at the fact that Phelps competitors have also broken the same previous world records. Thus Bolt is a lot better.
Really though?
Tyson Gay has run one of the fastest times (I believe the 3rd fastest) in the 100m in the same race that Bolt set the new 100m WR. The fact that Phelps has re-set records that were once not his is a great credit to his growth. However, I find that if nobody has broken Bolt's records, in the brief time they have existed, than they are to declare Usain Bolt the unanimous victor of this competition.
Let's see....Phelp's records (as is the case with most in swimming) will be replaced every championship, whereas, Bolts will last a LOT longer. Plus, Phelps is one ugly dude. And the bong didn't help.
i would argue, in terms of just success, k.bekele is better than both of them
We can't talk championships here. There's just too many more swimming events.
Bekele? Comparatively, that guy has only lowered the 10k WR by .3% (26:22.75 by Geb down to 26:17.53)
Gebreselassie on the other hand HUGE 1.82% (26:52 to 26:22)
Even in the 5k, Geb lowered the record 19 seconds, over 2%. Bekele has bettered Geb's times, but just barely.
Geb > Bekele in comparative effect on sport.
You guys still can't wrap your heads around the fact that Phelps is one of the greatest athletes ever...he is far far superior to Bolt at this point, Bolt just hasnt been around long enough....
Bolt could also walk faster than any of Phelp's records. He doesn't deserve to even be compared to someone like Phelps.
