Angus Young shoot yourself. We are all dumber with that damn post. Seriously "was Teg doing a tempo," ya think. I mean he ran sub 24 his first college race. Yes, it was a tempo and Wisco will be top 4 at Nationals if healthy for the most part. Get a clue.
Observer,
You're actually quite stupid. I don't think asking if Teg was doing a tempo is that out there. I mean, when has Wisconsin ever sent their #1 guy to a race to get his ass KICKED by another runner from the same conference. Do think Downin, Cassiano, and other Wisco greats would have ever entered a race with the attitude, "Oh well, it's only Drews, and this is only a workout. Hmm hmm hmm." Honestly, I am quite confused as to why Jerry would have him do this. I think every race has real potential to be a learning experience, which finds ultimate use in the big dances.
And as a sidenote, I'm really not sure if Teg is really THAT GOOD that he could just do a tempo on such a soft course in such a fast time. I know his times and talent; shit, I'm NOWHERE near him even at his tempo pace, but I am a big fan of talent when I see it. Consider this, for a truly beneficial tempo run, you should really not be that out of it after your finished. In fact, the whole point of it is to let your body run as close to that anaerobic threshold as possible, without ever going over. As soon as you go over, your muscles start producing an overdose of muscle-damaging lactic acid. And tempo runs should also be run (pacewise) quite consistently. So, back to my point, why anyone would enter a competition with the idea of a tempo workout is beyond me. To say the least, I'm very surprised a runner of that caliber would do it. And if nothing else, it certainly takes something away from A. Carlson's performance. It makes it almost seem like it was given to him. F that. He muscled his way to that victory.
How does everyone else feel about this stuff? What should be said when top runners get beat, and then rumors start about them doing a tempo in the race? What's really too bad is that Teg, in a way, is going to be associated with all the shit that gets written on this board.
