You forget the two are Africans, with Lagat Kenyan and Lomong Sudanese. And they eat same food just like Africans and speak same language. Its only the vest they will wear and the flag they will carry that will be different.
Oh, you're right: we had all totally forgotten that Lagat is from Kenya, and Lomong Sudan. Guess the joke's on us.
Ahhh, how quickly you all forget that both Lagat and Lomong are in fact very much African.

Is it me, or are people getting much more stupid these days?

This is the funniest post ever...

I see what you did there...
I think lopez eats the same foods that solinsky, manzano and ulrey eat. He also ran hs in new york. You are clearly ignorant
Lagat grew up on the same ugali as Alan Webb and Jim Ryun. He's one of us.
People seem to be forgetting that Lomong ran a 3:53 in London on Saturday. So this 4-day double is really quite impressive.
I'm not a big fan of Lomong, but this was huge.
I just watched that race on replay. Til I read your thread, I didn't even realize he was in it?!! That's the kind of factor he was (wasn't), I guess. I was really impressed with the Frenchman easing across the finish with that 3:30. Unreal.
Bumps Jim Ryun down to 9th on alltime US list.
Congratulations to Lopez! He's a class-act, friendly as can be, and runs his heart out on the track. He's agressive, confident, and improving each year. He may be at 3:30 in a year! More importantly, he'll keep improving his racing savvy with more experience on the international circuit, which is what counts the most at the OG and WC.
3.49 equivalent... another sub 3.50 guy waiting to happen.

I'm pretty sure Lopez doesn't "eat the same food" as most of his fellow Sudanese. Pretty sure he was looking to make some dietary changes when he came here.

Both ARE Africans.
In my opinion, Lomong is more American than Lagat. Lagat grew up in Kenya and competed for Kenya (albeit w/ US college interlude) whereas Lomong started his running career here and has never represented any other nation. To discount him as "not American" is unfair to a guy who came here seeking a safe life. He was a person without a home and escaped a situation that (most of) the rest of us will never be able to imagine. Give the guy a break.
how did he get soo good? I'm not at all being snarky, I'm happy for Lopez.
I'm just wondering how he progressed since he wasn't a huge stud in high school.
He was barely broke 4:30 for the 1600 indoors his junior year and placed mediocrely in his division. Below is the link,
He was somewhere around 18-20 at FL his senior year (2003). Transferred to N Arizona 2nd year of college, ran some good 800s, then became a jack of all trades and really hit his stride - competitive 800 to 10K cross.
Lomong ran 4:13 for mile on flat floor Indoors in HS
anyone who saw him ever could see he was not like the other children, and had hardly any running under him at that point.
Reid Buchanan and Des Linden rip Eliud Kipchoge on twitter - "Give me a break"
Oh the irony. What if it turns out the new $500 adidas shoe is just way better than Nike's?
Should slow kids be kicked of high school cross country teams ?
