No, he isn't word class, but it is interesting to see results to road races.
This is a running board right?

Three of his PR's are worse than the HIGH SCHOOL boys records and his 5k time is even slower than the Ethiopian women (granted, they are doped to the gills, but still....)
People like that are allowed in the U.S. champs??!!
Most decent D1 XC runners can run a time like that on the roads...
Oh wait, all four of those track PR's are worse than the high school records.
Our national championships need higher standards, methinks. Don't even get me started on the marathon qualification times (2:19 wtf!!!!)

So qualifying times should be tougher than HS records? We wouldn't have many running the 1500, that's for sure. Not many in the 800m either.
That's fine, why do we need B list runners at the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Good question, you should ask all the guys he beat. Maybe one of them has the answer.
Some of you clam-jammers seem yto have missed this trifling detail, but this thread is about a solo 23:27 performance, not the US T&F Championships and the standards the pimple-popping, pee-pee-tugging crew believes that meet should include.
The number of Americans who could go out on a warm day and solo 4:41 pace for five miles on the roads is not very large. I don't know what the state record is, but I guarantee you this is close. Oh, wait--Maine is a pissant state no one cares about; sorry to forget that briefly.

The high school record for the 800m is 1:46.
1 Nicholas Symmonds Oregon TC Elite 1:45.86
2 Khadevis Robinson Nike 1:45.97
3 Ryan Brown Asics 1:46.67
4 Christian Smith Nike 1:46.92
5 Tevan Everett Texas 1:47.06
6 Michael Rutt Connecticut 1:47.57
7 Karjuan Williams unattached 1:47.87
8 Tyler Mulder Northern Iowa 1:47.98
Only Symmonds and Robinson should have ran at Nationals..
You're a f**king idiot.
Withrow pwnd this homo too!

A win is a win. Any of you know what the course/conditions were like? Me neither. Maybe 23:27 on this course translates to faster on a different course or against stronger competition, maybe not, but regardless this is a reasonably decent performance given what Ben has run in the past. Is it world-class, no. But it's mid 29 10k. Who on this board ran sub 30:00 today?
By the way, check out 14th place in this race. Does that last name ring any bells?
I believe that his PR of 14:12 was the first time he ever ran a 5k on the track, and that was doubling back at Heps after running 3:44 to win the 1500. At XC heps this past year he shit on Michael Maag, beating him by about 30 seconds. Maag went on to run 13:41.
If Ben trained for the 5k for a season he would be a 13:35 runner.
