The first one that came to mind was Chebii. If anyone can find one of those 2003 clips I'd really like to see them. I always had higher hopes for him after that year.

There was an very old sprinting clip of a 4x100m. I believe was Owens. He blew by the field in the last 80 meters. Can anyone find that clip?
Rick, this was at KU Relays awhile back.
But I know how impressive it looked, so major props to you.

from the IL state meet
A state with the poplulation of IL holds a state meet that is so poorly attended? I was always under the impression that IL had great crowds for the state meet.

You were looking across to the stands, in that video clip, for the field events, which are traditionally less well attended. The main seating area was sold out.
granted it was a 4x100... but man she was ridiculous. She came from like 8-10m behind in a 100m race to win it!

Sorry, but his run doesn’t begin to match the explosive acceleration of Bob Hayes running the anchor leg at the 64 Olympics.
The most impressive I’ve seen in a distance race was Vaatainen’s finish in the 10,000 at the 71 European Championships.

I think I already posted that on this thread, but it can always use a bump.

Donald Sage Illinois State meet in the 2 mile his senior campaign.
Sage and Tim Keller were having a great 2 man battle for the win. They were on like 9:00 pace. Keller was no slouch in high school, think he ran like 8:55ish. The actual numbers are not important though.
With 320 to go, Sage left Keller alone like he was standing still. He honestly won by 80m I bet. Keller was not walking it in. If I remember right Sage closed in a mid 50's last lap. Easily the most amazing finish to a race I have ever seen. The crowd had one group gasp and people immediately were on their feet cheering.
If anybody out there can give the exact numbers great. But I would be willing to bet that for those runners who saw that race, they never saw a more inspiring finish than that one. Outstanding.
This finish will be the all-time classic finish in Illinois state history for decades to come.

I thought that was the backstretch seating. Field event seating explains things. Thanks.

Pretty sure Owens led off the 1936 4x100.
You may well be thinking of Bob Hayes, who was in sixth when he got the baton for the anchor leg and finished with "open water":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh-YLy_wnrcThe US used an "up" pass--I have no problem with that (it's just as fast as a "down" pass, and safer)--and then Hayes *switched hands* after getting the baton, which always hurts speed (granted, Carl Lewis used to do that too). Still, he crushed some great sprinters.
Duncan Kibet's finish at Rotterdam. He looks like he is simply jogging while Kwambai looks all out the whole final 800m. Kibet made that sprint finish of a 2:04 look so easy.
