John Walker ran a 3:52 once with a 49 last lap!

Billy Mills 1964 Olympics 10k
Maybe not the fastest kick, but its the best I've ever seen
Maybe the most ground ever made up for a major win: Berhane Adere over Adriana Pirtea in the 2007 Chicago Marathon. If Pirtea had watched the finish of the 2003 WC 10,000m, she might not have started high-fiving spectators quite so soon.
Just curious--where was the race and what year? This sounds suspiciously like the Idaho State High School 3200 meter Championship from 1982. I just happened to be the guy who was down by 75 meters with a lap to go, and then won in 9:15 or 9:16. Is this the race or am I flattering myself? Perhaps you're thinking of another... .

Borah High Class of '82.
My vote goes to Baumann '92. Absolutely sick! Nowadays, you don't see a white guy destroying a field of Africans in the 5k anymore.

Dude, you gotta quote the post you're responding to. There are like 90 responses to this thread so far.
Yes Jose "Tony" Parilla!
I remember the indoor national meet in 92 when Tony went from last place to first using the banked turn on the final lap of the 800, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
I recall at one point during the 92 season he was ranked in the 200, 400 and 800.

Very nice.
Here it is with different commentators and a better view of the fall:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG5nLIRvxhQ&feature=relatedApparently, she didn't actually win the event, because someone in a diffent heat ran a little faster. Too bad. It's still hard to imagine how she could do that against anyone close to her level. The commentators on that latter video sound surprisingly matter-of-fact about it all.
Although he finished fourth, Baumann's acceleration down the back straight in the Atlanta 5K also was incredible, but he gave Niyongabo and Bitok too much of a gap, and they were flying. Bitok's two silvers both were the result of his fantastic kick off a solid pace, yet he was beaten both times.

You've got to be kidding me, no way that should even be mentioned in this thread. That kid runs like a Raptor with his stupid Raptor claw form. Plus, what has he done since then? Nothing, he's washed up. His famous words are "get your popcorn ready!!!" yeah right Nick, I will only be eating popcorn and watching you run because it will be so entertaining to watch you get your A** kicked you LaSalle pansy.
At the regional meet in high school our 4x400 team had 3 terrible legs...running 56ish for each leg and we were in 6th place at the handoff...our last leg was the reigning state champ in the open 4, he split 47 and passed everyone like they were standing still....47s look sick in high school against mediocre runners
Anyone have the video of Christian Smith winning the NCAA indoor mile? I believe it was 2005 or 2006. One of the best finishes I've ever seen.
Oh my GOD... I had never seen Obea Moore's 4x4 before, that was breathtaking. Matusak's kick was pretty impressive... a lot of the most impressive kicks are at the high school level because the competition is less fierce and they are more likely to have a whole lot left at the end.
Ovett in the World Cup 1500m. where he ran sub-12 for the penultimate 100m. John Walker stepped off the track in shock.
Mirus (the Shifter) Yifter outkicked Ovett over 5k at Crystal Palace, and also produced tremendous finishes in his Olympic 5 and 10k wins. I believe he may have run sub 50 for the last lap of a 5 or 10k.
Alberta Cova used to have a phenomenal kick at 10k.

52.8 in the 5,000
All in the last 300 in both races. Probably 37-38s for both races. Fantashtik!
That's great. I don't know what happened to him the next year in the Olympics. Close to 9 min. for first 8 laps, then when the pack sped up, Vaatainen was dropped.

Rheumatism. Really.
no wonder Bedford never stood a chance
My question was in response to HERE WE GO-- the guy who apparently started the thread by asking the question: What's the best kick you've ever seen, amateur or professional?

This is not as dramatic as some of what others have listed, but Stephanie Brown comes from 40m back to win the race going away in this 4x4 prelim from the IL state meet this year.

She does the same thing even better in the 4x8.
You're all wrong, this is the best finishing kick ever
