Harold Norpoth ran a ridiculous last 600m in a 5000m race, and smoked Pre, in Europe. I don't remember the time for the last part, but it was crazy fast.
Any number of Miruts Yifter's races could be discussed, in regards to great finishing kicks. He often ran about 38-39 seconds for the last 300m of 5,000m or 10,000m races.
The Finish doper, Kantainen (spelling?) who won the European Championships in 1971 was crazy fast (about 51 seconds for the last 400m of a 10,000m race).
Femin Cacho's sprint finish of a 1500m at the OG was 51 and change.
Abdi Bile ran the last 800m of a World Championship 1500m in 1:46 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdi_Bile and Paul Ereng had a fast finish too, at either a WC or OG.
I saw Abraham Chebii run 51 and change at the Prefontaine Classic, about 5 or 6 years ago. He ran about 13:06 in the 5000m. He didn't start his "kick" until 300m left, and he still ran under 52 seconds for the last 400m. While sitting in C-section, on the homestretch, I clocked him at 38 seconds for the last 300m.
One might argue one of the best group finish of a major championship was run by Schul, Norpoth, Jazy, and Dellinger, in the 5,000m final of the 1964 Olympic Games. ON cinders, as it rained, the pace over the last 300m was 38.3 for Schul. I have viewed the videos and think that Dellinger ran even faster.
