Your right. He has closed in 5000m races 52 sec before in 2003 in a sub 13:00 min I believe. I don't know which race it was but I'll try to find it.

Yeah....no.
No
No
No
That's one no for each of the OTC guys and another no for the sake of no.
Bekele will win the 5k, Sihine will come in second fi he runs the event. Same as usal.
I do think Teg has a shot at medalling, in the 2007 WC Teg finished 4th right behind (within tenths of a second) of Kipchoge. Teg is an excellent closer and he has the wheels (13:04) to keep up with the big boys.
Here's the thing about World Championships and Olympic Games. Distance runners do not need to be in PR shape and most of them are not, they are in shape to close hard because they all know as well as we all know that 95% of championship style races are slow races that come down to the last 400 meters and how fast the athlete can close.
Obvsiouly the 2008 Olympic Games 5k was an exception to the rule and an exception to the rule doesn't happen often in championship-style races.

I highly doubt that either of them can run a 53 in a race as fast or faster than their PRs.
Hey, if Rupp can close in 53 while running 30 seconds faster than his PR then why shouldn't Teg be able to close in 53 while running his PR?
When and what race did this happen in?

It was a sarcastic statement aimed at the people who think Rupp has a shot of medalling at worlds.
The commentator's called today's 13:03 race a tactical, slow race on the broadcast. I don't think Teg and Solinsky can run a tactical 13:03.
hahahaha these guys are dreaming.. a tactical race at 13:0s
/Bekele only closes in 53", Tegenkamp and OTC will Dominate [quote]/
Take a cue from Salazar - it's about constant improvement. Think about looking for how many East African runners these guys can beat before thining about beating Bekele.
Shalane Flanagan was already the trail blazer in this respect in Beijing, by beating a couple of Kenyans, including one who set the World Junior Record at 10K. The top East Africans are just on a different level, so let's start taking note when Americans can compete with the 2nd and 3rd members of those teams at the Championships. That's really quite an accomplishment.
I don't think Bekele taken his Repoxygen or whatever yet. In 1985 pre-EPO Aouita closed in 54 in his 13:00 WR...
Teg's 3k pr 7:34.98
Bekele ran the last 3k in Beijing in 7:35, finishing in 54
So, unless Teg has had some incredible improvement that he has kept a secret, he will be hard pressed to make the final, let alone be in the hunt.
the OP's name "La La Land" implies a troll score of 3/10.
bernie wouda killed him on that form
go check out his london '06 5k against kennster in 12'59...
True but I don't think he would have KILLED him. He probably would have won by a second or a tenth of a second. Besides if lagat and bekele were to go in a 5k kickers race right now, I'll go with bekele. Lagats getting up there in age and micah kogo outkicked kim. And in a few years I wouldn't be surprise to see German Fernandez outkicking lagat.

put it in context:
morceli, a slower 1500/5k guy than bernie, finished his 13'03pb ( quicker than this race ) in 51
that's 2s faster than kennster ran & wouda beaten him by 12m+ on a last lap
in a 13-flat race, anything slower than 51 is poor

which means the last lap of the 5k @ USATF is worth.....bloodyf***all
apologies
i missed that race
how quick was it ?
my point is that an established 1500/5k guy with <3'30 shoud be able to go ~52 in a ~13'00 & guys like choge/songok shoud match kennster in these tactical 5ks

The thing is that the last km was very fast. Kenny B can wun the last mile in sub 4 and still wun a 53 last lap.
the socks will help
Video last 400 meters..
The best thing any of the OTC guys could hope for is take Sileshi Sihine's spot, stick with Bekele, until he gets bored of toying with them and decides to shift into an other-wordly gear, leaving them 10+ yards back.

Is it? How many people finished 13min 5000s in 51sec? I can't imagine there are that many. It might just be Morceli. Also, keep in mind that Bekele is coming off an injury and he is just starting his season. Given that context, 53sec beating guys who are race sharp is pretty good.
