"Does Galen Rupp really have a shot at winning a medal in Berlin?"
You're kidding, right?
Talented guy that Rupp, but not a chance.

Actually, I believe everyone in the race has a chance, and last time I checked, Rupp qualified for worlds, so you can bet he'll be racing in Berlin.
And just to annoy those tired of the Daba comparison, Ethiopia is actually considering Daba for their worlds team assuming Bekele and Sihine opt not to run the 5k, so he can't be dismissed as some second-rate African.
"second rate"
you just described Rupp on the world scene.
hello there, "hello people"
I will guess he finishes either in 4-7th or near the back of the pack. He has little chance to metal and much will depend on first 5k pace. If it is slow a better result is likely. If it is fast I suspect they will break him and he will finish deep in the pack. Not love or hate just looking at what is likely.
Indeed, but I'm eager to see him prove himself first rate this summer.
So "hello people" what do you think rupp will run in berlin. 26:45 maybe? I predict he'll run a 26:05.
Honest opinion OK. trolls need not apply.

I happen to believe that this statment should be applied to fanboys such as yourself. How does it go, "I seen Galen Rupp run a 54 second last lap at the end of a 10k and I JIZZED IN MY PANTS." hahahahaha. Keep responding to me "rupp gang". This is kind of fun making you guys mad and all.
Hahahahaha disregard that, I suck wieners.

It's interesting to me that Daba and Bekele both keep banging out these hard 5K's, especially given Bekele's quote today:
"To run fast times now is very difficult for me right now. I'm not like I was before. I'm very tired during a race. I'm not feeling very good (during a race) ... I am trying to train as before, but my body cannot accept it. But slowly I'm getting better and better."
I'm not sure if Daba is on the World team but at least in the case of Bekele I don't see how you can feel tired and not fit and still keep racing like this as well as keep a good training regimine up for the target meet of World Champs. Seems like he could go into worlds a little flat or beat up.
Daba 12:59 today.
Seriously, I think they know what they are doing. You americans are always worrying about being burnt out and peaking. Hicham el guerroje in 2003 won all of his golden league appearances and defended his world champ title with no problem. And bekele won all those world cross races in one year and still defended his title. And like I said, you are one dumb cookie. Daba ran a 12:59 today so I guess rupp and chalenga are due to run a 12:59 as well.

I don't know about Chelanga, he had a tough time with that pace and fell of several times before the kick and lost nearly 2 seconds over the last 200. And he obviously peaked early in track as he couln't touch Rupp at NCAA's despite Rupps workload. Rupp perhaps. Still hoping Rupp gets a 5K in before or after worlds.
Interesting quote from Ritz I saw regarding Rupps training:
Do you know specifically, in training, what they do to develop that?
DR: We haven't gotten into it a lot. I know he thinks I have a lot of strength and aerobic background but I really lack the general speed training that I used to do, I guess, when I used to run a little bit faster. For me, that's going to be a huge thing, developing some year-round speed that I've lacked before. I've devoted a lot of time to threshold training, and we'll keep that in. Some of the stuff that Galen does, compared to some of the fast workouts that I would do, is pretty amazing, so I need to get in with him and really make that big change.
D Ritz, you sound like world class times just sort of happen.
Well, 2:06 didn't happen, and neither will sub 13:10. Its about the talent to have raw speed and talent, not about changing coaches. We watching to see if what you say, really comes to past.

Honestly, the fact that Ritz makes that strong of a statement about how "amazing" Rupps fast workouts are in contrast to what he's done makes me optimistic for him. It means that he has never worked out like that before, and yet he has run:
1500 Metres 3:42.99 Palo Alto, CA 10/05/2002
3000 Metres 7:39.03 Sheffield 15/07/2007
Two Miles 8:11.74 Eugene, OR 10/06/2007
5000 Metres 13:16.06 Braaschaart 21/07/2007
Considering what Rupp, Goucher and Begley have done it's not a stretch at all to think that their program can develope Ritz' speed. I bet he'll run under 3:40, 7:37 and 13:10 and with his tank that could turn into a very fast 10K.
it may be amazing how fast Rupp runs them versus how amazing the actual workouts themselves are. I will try to be optimistic but I have watched DRitz run since he was a soph in high school. An amazing talent, tons of endurance but he has never shown the ability to drop a fast last 400 meters.

That's the problem with you and others, you stick your head in the sand and scoff at those who say Rupp has a chance to medal, just because non-Africans haven't been in the picture for a long time.
Don't blow things out of proportion, no one is predicting sub 27 yet. But 2710 seems very reasonable given his other improvements, which would, if not put him in the medal hunt, at least give him a chance of cracking the top 5 or 6. This becomes even more likely if it's a 2007 type race, where the fourth place finisher is 20 seconds back from the winner. If you want further evidence, just scroll through the rest of this thread.
Oh shut up crybaby. What has rupp done to make you think he's ready to run 27:10 in a tactical 10k race. Nothing. But I know Daba ran a 12:59.xx so that means rupp is around a 12:59.xx. You fanboys are truely retarded. If daba runs a 12:55.0x in the next meet I guess with your excellent wisdom rupp will be running around a 12:56 next week? Whatever, I done. Just like in the other thread, congradulations rupp for breaking 13:00 in a 5k. Truely unbelievable. No one will ever forget this day, especially his fanboys I mean fanbase.

This guys is obviously a huge hater or a troll or both, I would do as others have done and just ignore his nonsense. It just burns his ass that Rupp is a fantasic runner. I believe it was him or his alterate name that said Rupp has not raced anyone but college kids and that Daba is not a top Ethiopian, but yet Daba is consitently placing in the top 5 in the Golden league as 2nd & 3rd Ethiopian finisher. That tells you where his credibility lies and what his agenda is.
