Ok, so I am a female long distance runner that logs over 70 mpw every week and have run the B standard over 10km so I am a pretty competitive athlete. My support system is not great as I am fresh out of college and at the end of my senior year I had a stress fracture that took me out of NCAA's and any looks I was getting from competitive teams and support systems ended. This is where this forum comes in, please be my support system.
I am looking for a pair of shoes that will not injur me and that will not cause me muscle pain. My last two pairs of shoes have caused calf soreness (I believe in my posterior tibialis, it seems to be pretty deep). Trigger point therapy gets rid of it but it always comes back and it gets old inflicting that pain on yourself day after day.
I have high arches and by looking at the wear on my old training shoes (asics get 1130's) I land on the outside of my heel on my left foot and push off the center of the ball of my foot. On my right foot though is the problem, there is no significant wear on the heel of my right foot so it is hard to say, but the outside of the ball of the foot is worn. This makes no sense to me because I've been told that I overpronate, wouldn't overpronation cause me to push off the inside of my foot? Have I been wearing stability shoes for no reason and can these stability shoes be the reason why I always have calf knots and soreness?
My coach told me my right foot is lazy when I run and does not dorsiflex as much as it should, which could be the reason why I don't land on my heel, he is convinced that is the problem and I need to work on strengthening my anterior tibialis and other muscles on the anterior side.
Any suggestions on shoes or strengthening? Mainly shoes because I am in need of a new pair.
