In junior high dual meets, girls and boys raced the mile at the same time. I used to pass some of the boys (I am female). My grandma's commentary on that: "Never pass the boys because the male ego is very delicate and we have to protect it." In high school, she told me to leave my letter jacket hanging in the closet and not to wear it so that it would stay nice and clean. I didn't take either piece of advice but love the lady dearly.
Not pre/post race but still...
More recently, bad ankle sprain on a trail put me on crutches for a few days. Responses included: "Thats the thing about running outside" from a friend who only runs the treadmill, and "The best thing about your injury is you don't have to run that 10k over the weekend" from a co-worker.
On Christmas, one relative asked if it personally frustrates me that some people can run 5 minute miles for the marathon.
