DC area resident...My lawyer friends tell me if you are going to do a crime in this area, don't do it in VA because they actually punish people.
The nerve of them.
So, if that is what you mean by bass ackward, then you might be right.

You're screwed. I'd suggest you at least read this journalist's experience with speeding in Virginia. He was 30 mph over and had to pay a fine and spend 3 days in jail. His punishment was light compared to what he could have gotten. Get a lawyer and good luck.

Read the article I posted. It does happen. Generally journalists don't fabricate stories.

it is reckless wrote:Driving 20 mph over the speed limit is the very definition of reckless driving. There is a reason why there are speed limits. Don't speed and you don't have to worry about it. Police should pull people over who are speeding - they are endangering themselves and other innocent drivers.
20 mph over is reckless? Maybe in a school zone. Not on the interstate with no one around. Its a known fact that speed limits are put lower than they need to be to allow courts to make money. In CA reckless isn't until over 100. What happens does the gravity of the earth make driving 81 mph safer over there. These laws are arbitrary and in VA, very draconian. Very few drivers are endangering anyone. Speeders are supporting an industry (the police) against their will, not endangering people.
Witnessed what speeding can do to both the offended and innocent victims by working in an ER for over 20 years. You are either naive or in denial about the fact that speed often kills. You should visit the ER for a few days - perhaps you could be the one to tell the family of an innocent victim that their loved one is dead because of an entitled jerk who considered himself/herself above the law. Regarding the laws in California - so what? California is hardly the model to hold up these days for anything. If California approves of something, it probably means you should be doing the opposite.
Not sure what you have against California, one of the most desirable states to live in, but ok... Speed doesn't kill, poor drivers do. If an alert driver sees a pedestrian walking across the interstate while going 75 in a "55", he slows down or swerves to dodge the pedestrian who is not where he is supposed to be. If grandpa joe going 50 on the interstate in a 55 doesn't see the pedestrian he hits him and kills him. Did grandpa joe's driving below the speed limit save the pedestrian, no? OMG going below the speed limit must be dangerous. See, it works both ways.
Your next argument is probably something like that going slower would give people more time to respond, well that is true, but then eveyone should only drive 5 mph for ample time to respond to anything, human lives are too valuable. See, thats absurd, there has to be a balance between reasonable time to respond and a reasonable rate to travel. And that balance is a good bit above the speed limits which are deliberately put below it to fund the speed ticket giving police industry.

screw that, trial by combat.
I assume you weren’t polite when he pulled you over. I got pulled over clocked at 103mph and he wrote down 85mph to save ruining my life. He asked if I knew how fast I was going and I said probably close to 110 or so. I’m always extra polite to police so they usually like me.
