Thanks for the correction.
ok malmo
1. i don't drink beer
2. Fields is not a phantom he is listed on on TFN lists and even on the CA state article but ommitted on the list quoted by you
3 TFN lists are not complete for hs as they do not include open meets such as UCLA all comers or Pierce college all comers. Lots of good hs runners entered the open divisions there in the 70's.
4. Sorry i did email about this list and also about the they were gods two mile list which is also not accurateand never received any answer
Every year while i was in school so cal was loaded with people who were really fast so some of them have been overlooked. when Hunt ran 402 indoors how much attention did guys get when they ran 4:11? not much.
I mentioned Clay Sigman running 4 12 and being city champ, but he never ran the mile except at the very end of his senior year, the rest of the time he was just a decent 440/880 guy who figured the competition was easier in the mile.
runamook
yeah I remember Marty i used to run the half against him in the summer meets at Pierce. He was dating that really cute girl runner, can't remember her name but she was a good miler. He went to Oregon and didn't like it. It was sad because he was really just getting started.
College running was a mess then because there were so many good runners. UCLA was splitting scholarships of guys who were CA state champions, USC was getting Olympians from overseas, it seems like people were just getting ground up and spit out
Basch was from Hollywood and he kept tripling in the half, mile and 2mile. I remember the year he was winning everything we had a serious smog alert and it was over 100 degrees and he just hammered it. I couldn't even take a deep breathe that day and i thought they would cancel the meet. and it didn't affect him at all.
Theriot was a really good 220 guy, perfect to convert to the 880 which he did in college.
lets see who else would u know, ecr's cohen, i ran against him in the quarter & half, he was good i think he ran the 1500 for csun.

Thanks! I’ve seen this list years ago & been trying to find it. I am impressed by the boys of the ‘60s, running on cinders & clay - and turning in 4 of the top 10.
I can say proudly that got my ass kicked by 6 of those 13 guys in person in high school.
But, I managed to beat 4 of them back in college and open.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
