Let's get serious folks, there will not be a bunch of guys going sub 4. Running a 4 X 4 relay is just not conducive to those kinds of times. At best, you will get 2 or 3 guys on each others' shoulders for a short while, but there will not be the typical open mile competitive race going on. Oregon will probably go with Centrowitz, Withers, Winter and Klotz (Wheating and Rupp will not waste their talents on this kind of race designed to entertain the fans. I predict that the Oregon team will run around 16:25 (4:10, 4:10, 4:05, 4:00). McNamara would have been a nice addition to this team, but he has been injured for quite a while and certainly is not in 4 minute mile shape. Reality, folks!

Why in the world would Oregon not come to Penn Relays to set the record?

I agree, but am definitely more optimistic than you are. To have a shot at the record, I think they would need Acosta, who is redshirting. I think Rupp and Wheating are both good for near, 4 flat, even solo. I don't see Centro running 4:10. I guess they'll run 16:09. -
I meant to add, there is no way Oregon runs the lineup you've proposed. This race is something they've been talking for a while. One of the main reasons they moved the race from this weekend to the Twilight was because Rupp is running the 10000m this weekend. I'd be shocked if three of the four guys that run aren't Centro, Rupp, and Wheating.

You're right, they are going for it. I can't believe nobody is saying sub-16. Centro, Wheating and Rupp are all certainly going sub-4.
I only wish Arkansas was in the race as well. -
Yeah, I don't think Lananna would set this and bring in competition only to run a B-squad. Oregon will run the four fastest milers they can assemble, excluding Acosta due to the redshirt.
-
anybody know where to enter this meet or what the deadline is?
-
Gregson, Huffer, Bromley will all be at Penn Relays and wont be at Oregon, done.
-
The record attempt has been moved to May 9. FAIL!!!
-
check out the letsrun contest enteries. VERY ENTERTAINING!!

I hope they just run everybody together and add up the times at the end like our conference relays meet in high school. This will allow people to run faster and the meet will be shorter.
my 2 cents -

in which case it wouldn't be a relay and would be a mile race with 16 runners. run the relay and go for 16:00!
be interesting to see what wheating comes up with this weekend in the 1500. -
Penn's track is not Rupp certified... sorry...

that stopped being funny after xc pac-10's this year.

I think that 4xMile attempt might be nice for local Eugene/Springfield residents like myself. We can get out and watch the kids at Hayward Field. But why doesn't Vin, Al Sal, Schumacher and other coaches in our state work more on trying to get us at least one USA medal at the IAAF Berlin and 2012 London Olympics. We had ZERO medals in track and field at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while the state of California won 10 medals in track and field. That's awfully embarrasing to all of us Oregonians.

Well hotshot, if you live near Eugene, why don't you ask them yourself. Or better yet, if you can do better then assemble your own crew and go after it.

I love how you make this stame stupid argument on every Oregon thread. It's a completely pointless argument, but I'll give you credit for your persistence. -
Why isn't their a story about that in the Oregonian or Register-Guard ?

thank you. i agree with your response 100% -
I did many times and all they can do is hamm up and repeat what they have done rather that deliver any medals. It's like they are on a funding mission solicting support from fans all of the time. Fortunately our state is at least trying to be like Texas and California, but has yet to deliver the goods.
