Proud of Kara. Please ban anyone talking crap on her about crying. I felt myself tearing up for her.

Well, 58 seconds. A minute. Still, a fine performance.
Maybe, but I bet Hall is not happy. You only have so many decent marathons in you. At the level he is now, I gotta think nothing less than a victory will do.
Sell 14th at 2:16:31, 3-1/2 minutes back from 10th.
How did the Hansons think they would have 6 in the top 15? How did Sell think he was in 2:09 shape?
Great job by Hall and Goucher.
I wish the women's race had been a bit more honest. It may not have changed the outcome but it was dull until the last 10 minutes. It also ruined the mens race coverage.
they had 5 in the top 19
No doubt Sell starts working on people's teeth realllllly soon.
Exciting mens race, Hall did fantastic IMO considering the blistering initial pace. Kara started to push it a little early, or else I think she could have won it.

give them 11-minute head start to make it fair - why 28 minutes? so when running pedestrian pace they can still finish first? most people here don't like seeing minor league baseball and women marathoning -- we prefer cream of the crop
Good point, same reason we'd prefer to see countless other posters rather than read your shit. 11 is a dumb time. What are you talking about "fair"? It's not a M v W race. They want the women to race unaffected by men, that's why they make certain they're clear.
1983 so close yet so very far
Did they have a 15 mph headwind in 1983? (I actually don't know what the weather conditions were, so they very well might have.)
Wow, what a race. Hall & Goucher never gave up! They just didn't have the finish needed. Especially Goucher. She was right there until the finish. Hall was coming back but too little too late. This was one of the most entertaining Boston Marathon's in quite a while. We should be proud of these two as they ran a gutty race. Sad they didn't win.
I missed the early stages. Why were the times so slow - especially the women?

No one went.
anyone know what sell ran?
Congrats to Hall and Goucher! After Hall was initially dropped I'm sure the haters were chomping at the bit to denigrate him, not that they won't denigrate him for running 3rd, but it will be weak and pitiful...
Well they didn't win, but it was nice to see them in contention for most of the race.
Especially Sara.
Ryan hung tough and came back for the 3rd place finish when it looked like he was done.
--Not so sure about his strategy though, a slower start may have aided him, and his low arm swing...that just isn't efficient, he loses a minute with that alone. I can't imagine how he runs that way, wasted motion.
Overall the hype that two Americans cold win it brought greater press coverage, and there is no shame in finishing 3rd.
It did suck that they both ducked out to the recovery tent instead of getting interviewed.
I have mixed thoughts on the crying after a race thing, but I think we men, being men, shouldn't comment on it; what do we know about being female?
It seemed like to win it she needed to take it out with 4-5 to go, and she did not, and the time was slow.
However, she, and Alberto got her on the podium, very nice.
I guess Alberto can coach. With Rupps successes etc., maybe a few more people should be coached my Salazar.
3. B. Durden, GA 2:09:57
haha benji durden... my dad used to run with that guy, or behind him that is
