Variable pace for the first 5k, but overall they tended to hit just above 5:00 per mile. Not much happened 'til the third mile, when the Cortland guys went to the front. Suddenly, Nally was shot off the back like he didn't belong. The other 16 continued together until just after four miles I believe, when a break came. Spain, Brady, Kaul, Flynn, Chenoweth, Christiansen, Schneider, and DuBois got away. DuBois fell first, then Schneider. (Lorenzen moved up towards the end to get ahead of DuBois.) After Schneider came off with about 5 laps to go, the front six continued to hammer away, led by the North Central duo. These six remained a pack until 600 to go, when Kaul blew it open. Kaul was long gone on the way to the win, while Cheno and Christiansen came through 400-to-go side-by-side with Flynn trying to chase them down, and the NCC duo left for 5th and 6th. Kaul won going away, while Flynn dropped a 60-point final lap to take second, leaving Cheno for third and Christiansen for third.
By the way, the results that are currently on the website are wrong, Christiansen was in fact 4th, not DNF, and move everyone else down a spot. These wrong results were posted at the meet but corrected in time for the podium thing.
Christiansen's time was about 30:59 or 31:00, also.
someone explain to me why everyone in the the 10k jogged it? kaul's 30:54.56 to win it would have put him around 30th place in qualifying for the 10k. and really 33:05.01? i am not even going to comment on that. i know its all about a "tactical race", personally i think everyone should clean the sand out and just race.
I agree that sometimes the tactical nature of these races is excessive, but in this case it was exaggerated by the mid 80s temperature. In those conditions a 30:54 is actually not bad at all. One must also consider that many, if not most of those guys will be doubling back in the 5000, and pushing too hard in that heat would leave them trashed for Saturday.

Ask Towle if he felt he "jogged" it f***er!
Yes, I did. Was too hot for a 10k.
Damn it Towle! If I knew you were going to jog it, I would've declared Bird Man for the 10K!!!!
Ya mid-80's is hell to run in this time of year for those not used to it. I didn't realize it was that hot, I would have sucked it up too. I was just expecting a badass 10k this year from how ridiculously fast the qualifying times were.

Welcome to Track and Field ... It's called "RACING", Sometimes it's a fast race, sometimes it's not. I hated tactical races but you just have to deal with it.
3000m Steeplechase
1 Peter Kosgei, Jr, Hamilton College 8:56.67
Don Drumm Stadium record
Was 9:15.64; Michael Sawicki, Otterbein, 5/13/2006
2 Paul Zdroik, Sr, Wisconsin La Crosse 8:57.87
3 Kyle O'Brien, Jr, Cortland S U N Y 8:57.96

6 Nate DeHaan, Sr, Calvin College 9:06.00
7 Kent Pecora, So, Dickinson College 9:07.81
8 Brian Murtagh, Sr, Connecticut College 9:08.41
Kosgei wins. No big shocker. I wonder how it played out? Based on the time and his style I'm assuming he sat on the leader and did whatever was necessary to win at the end.
Kaul and Kosgei with 1 victory each so far. Predictions for their 5k showdown tomorrow.....
anyone know if any one taped the steeple, or if anyone has a video of the steeple?
where can you find photos of all the races?
What is with the damn LAX guys and their watches???????

Doubling not the best idea, again, for Jimmy O'Brien. Although let's not let that overshadow an excellent race by Bofa.
