Hey man. Oh yea. Much faster now that all I have to worry about is running. I go through 5k of an 8k more than a minute faster than my 5k pr was when I started this thread.

Went though 3 miles in 15:20 at Louisville classic 8k. Finished in 25:41. This was 3 weeks after me coming back from an injury break.
2 weeks later:
Went through 3 miles in 14:56 at Mcalpine Queens XC challenge 8k. Finished in 25:35. (I strained my hamstring at mile 4 and had to hobble in the last mile. I went from 12th to 33rd. I could have ran 25:10, honestly.
I was never 100% healthy this season.
Now I have d2 nats in 6 days.
So Ian, from low mileage to after the run of 100 mile weeks how much improvement did you have for 5k and 8k?
bumpo

Never ran another 5k since highschool. My "pr" is still 15:44 from the roads.
Ran 25:35 and 25:41 as a freshman for 8k. Went by 5k in 15:10 and died.
I've been having nagging injuries since the end of my college freshman xc season.
I ran 25:41 at Louisville. Then next weekend I ran 1:26.46 for 15 miles solo. Next weekend I ran 25:35 at Charlotte and that's when I first got injured. I definitely pushed my body too hard and I'm still paying the price right now.
I have the "loss of coordination" problem now. So I'll never live up to my potential. I can do mile repeats at a good clip because I get ~5:00 of jogging rest between. It allows my leg to not "lose coordination". I can get 5 of them at 4:45 pace now.
Basically went from
4:28 mile to 4:02 1500
9:46 3200 to 8:45 3000.
Prd in 5k during 8k with 15:10.
Now I'm redshirting this track season.
I don't dream of being great anymore. Just of getting healthy enough to continue contributing on my d2 cross country team.
Keep it going, brother!
Glad you finally realized you were an idiot. PS I also know of plenty of "average" runners who ran your times off of half your mileage. Your high mileage philosophy is just as destructive for the sport as the ridiculously low mileage/high intensity guys.

When I originally got hurt, I wasn't even doing super high mileage. Just right around 100. That's almost low based on what I see other runners doing. I just wasn't ready for the mileage I was doing. I believe people can get to 200 mpw with no injuries if they build up to it correctly.
Even if you were only running 100 a week, if you stuck to your original plan of running it all at 8 min pace, that's WAY too much time on your feet and at a slow pace, building the wrong proportions of muscles. It's no wonder you damaged yourself so badly. Sorry if I'm rubbing salt in your wounds, you still don't seem to understand what went wrong though.
Average runners - 9:46 guys in HS - are not running 25:40 off 50 miles a week.

I wonder the same thing.
Ian, you are a beast dude! Pretty legit from how you went from being disliked by many to being liked.
Also, to those of you criticizing his high mileage approach, even though he did get injured, he never would've ran 15:10 for 5k. If he stuck to his low mileage he probably would've been a 16 ish runner.

Truly enjoyed this thread. I would like to resurrect it and let others read this masterpiece. There is a lot here that we can see and learn from. I’m glad I discovered this wonderful thread.
I know this thread is old but its amazing to see how much hate this guy got or posting this. LR is still full of fucken losers in mommys basement.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
