I'm a product of my time, so I guess I'd say Ryun.
Not sure whom else I'd pick. Hard to pick any of the women, because I don't have confidence that any of the "biggies" was clean; might have to dig pretty far back to find my other favorites among the men.
Walter George and Jack Lovelock, maybe?
i forgot to mention

peter snell too
Sir Rodger Bannister
Ovett.
No accident he was universally liked in the UK, much more so than many of his peers. A great runner and a man of character.

I'm with you -- Walker. Not saying he was the best, just my favorite for his attitude. Kip Keino second. I never rooted for him back then because I thought he was a prima donna, but over time I have come to appreciate Sebastian Coe.

jim spivey. i like the way raced: prepared; ready to throw-down.
I'm a Morceli guy too.
yea, he is sort of in El Guerrouj's shadow much of the time...he is left in the gap between Coe and Cram's era and in 97 when El G took up the reins. He was unbeatable during that time though...almost as strong as Hicham but with a slightly better kick...3 dominating world championship wins closing in 50-51; world records at 1500m, the mile (by 2 seconds!), 2000m, 3000m; beating the worlds best 5k runners in 13:03 with a sub 52 second last lap and an Olympic Gold to cap it off means he was very, very good in his own right.
He clearly liked winning, and didn't really know what to do after El Guerrouj started beating him in '97 and later. Walking across the line in the '97 world champs and giving away the bronze lowers my opinion of him a bit but he is still one of my favorite runners of all time.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
