why are we not impressed by cycling , plese tell me
too machanical ?
no Africans ?
rich guy sport?
Drugs?
I don't mean not to be impressed by Armstong but I'm not.
He does not seem to carry himself like a person secured and humbled by vast achievment.
Armstrong is the only known athlete to improve both his aerobic and anaerobic capacity through training.
He was a freak to start, a freak to improve, and maybe he can be a freak and fight father time.
De La Hoya could not the other night, I doubt L.A. can either.

You are a dumbass. You didn't spell it wrong you spelled it wrong twice out of seven tries, adding an e, but only some of the time. And of course I can figure out who you are talking about, because five of the times you actually spelled it right. And I couldn't find all the misspellings of any word on this site ... nobody has that much time with you illiterate retards.
And I know it is "LeMond" ... I have one of his bikes. It was a rhetorical question.
If poor gramar makes you a dumbass then it looks like you're a dumbass too. There should be a comma after "You didn't spell it wrong". You also can not begin a sentace with "And". Finally, last time I checked 5/7 is a C-, still a passing grade.
The guy was just trying to inform us non-cycling fans of what happened. Apparently you couldn't find anything wrong with the historical content of his post to criticize, so you had to criticize his spelling. I bet most non-cycling fans (this is a running website not a cycling one) would spell it "LeMonde" much more often than that anyway.

Ummmm ... pretty much every runner who ever trained systematically has "improve(d) both his aerobic and anaerobic capacity through training". Cyclists too. X-Country skiers, swimmers, rowers.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
What? You need to invest in a good phys. text.
As for De La Hoya; he didn't train hard enough. Manny P. is a freakin' animal. Take a look at some of his training videos. He has a body guard that ensures he gets to the gym and is not distracted in any negative way. He works out 4 hrs a day every day!!!
Lance has the physical ability to come back to championship form. It's the mental part that I wonder about. I'm assuming he isn't worried about the mental aspect as he has committed to the journey.
Geb is another example. His head is his greatest strength. The guy was 5th in the 10,000 this summer. I swear if he had focused on the 10,000 and went earlier he would have won.

According to european sports papers Armstrong was by far the strongest rider during the recent training camp of the astana team, winning a test race up a steep climb by a big margin, Leipheimer told journalists that LA seems atleast as strong as in 2003.
which paper? news I read has been opposite of this - that Lance is getting worked over by Leipheimer and Kloedi in training and Contador is with another group mainly.
Lance's comments would back this up - where he publicly states that he will do "what team, and cycling demands", i.e., ride for the strongest rider, be it Contador, Leipheimer or Kloeden.

He lost like 20lbs to run 2:45. He will be better climber. It will be a fact. Does he have the power to time trial?
This is an extemely bad post.
like someone stated earlier... he never stopped cycling. he did leadville (not a show up and ride kind of ride) and also several cyclo-cross races. i also believe he did a couple of single day road races in the US.
I agree! Let's all watch RUNNING and RUN around in our tiny little runny shorts and make fun of them there pedal bikers!
Whatever happened in whatever training camp... lol who cares. The important thing is hopefully the tour will be back to it's old soap opera-like self this year!
Contador rode with a separate group on the day of the climb. He's on a different schedule and just came back from deviated septum surgery.
"You have it as "Lemond" five times and "Lemonde" twice? Are your powers of concentration really that bad? Or were you hedging your bets on how it was spelled?"
-You began your last sentence with a conjunction. Are your powers of concentration really that bad, or are you just a fool that likes to point out ridiculous things?

Lance is a great role model, i dont know why anyone criticizes him.
Think about the message he is portraying, "anything is possible with performance enhancing drugs."
Have you ever done any bike racing? Cycling is highly aerobic.
Tour riders spend hours a day in the saddle for weeks on end. Even the shortest bike races are longer than 10k runs. Anaerobic fitness is almost useless to a tdf level cyclist.
"When you go through a period of detraining it does not take nearly the same time to regain that fitness. In fact it takes very little to maintain fitness for quite some time. Many WRs and Olympic medals have been won by runners who were forced to take time off due to injury/surgery leading up to their performance."
-----------------------------------
Very well stated!
Example: Bill Dellinger took 3 years off after the 1960 Olympic Games. He taught p.e. and played handball, but did not run. In October of 1963 he started training again. By the next fall he was an Olympic bronze medalist at 5,000m.

What are you smoking? Almost useless? It completely depends on the course. You'll never get into a breakaway or win a sprint without anaerobic fitness. It is *extremely* rare to do long time trial efforts.

Well put cyclingisfor“RETARD”s….. ?
... as an 18+ year veteran of said pedal pushing activity which our new little friend here, Mr. cyclingisfor“RETARD”s, oddly enough suggests society should not bestow a single disembodied rodent hiney to support… I have to ask the question on everyone’s mind (well mine anyway…)… “Who pissed in your recovery drink mix YO?”
Mr. cyclingisfor“RETARD”s, I must say your strong feelings, not to mention the utter eloquence in which you parade them, leads this pedal biker to believe at some point in your (most likely very recent) childhood you have been horribly wronged by our kind. Maybe viscously run down by a heartless cycler? Perhaps relentlessly ridiculed by a passing pack of pedaling biking savages laughing and chanting “are those your sister’s shorts?” as you shuffled on, tears welling, fueled by the rejection of once again failing to land a spot on the middle school JV football team….desperately hoping to at least be part of the cross country squad…
Who knows, maybe you are just upset because your secret cross dressing fetish is in serious jeopardy of discovery as you come to the realization, unlike your cycling buddies, you really don’t have a good excuse to shave your legs…
Whatever your beef w/ cycling… I assure you, we don’t want your rat’s a** anyway ;)
Bon appétit little runny shorts dude!
