GO Chad, GO! I agree w/Mansoor, don't leave it so close this time. But, on the other hand, run a pace you're sure you can sustain the whole way. Hope the weather cooperates.
Good luck Miles and Miles!
Chad,
I wish you the best, but there is no such thing as a cushion in the marathon. The best marathons are run in negative splits. If you are a 2:19 marathoner then you should go out at 5:20 pace (and maybe you are). If you are a 2:21 marathoner and you go out at 5:20 pace, you will run 2:25. I will be cheering for good results. Good Luck.
Thanks everyone, I will do what I can do.

Well, in that case--from the race director at the Leadville Trail 100 during the prerun pep talk
"Remember, you are stronger than you think you are and you can do more than you think you can."
Time to believe in the guy that signed the entry blank.
Best wishes to you.
I believe in that guy. For those of you that know me from my posts and those that have read the article you can see that I don't lack in the self confidence department. I know I can run the time, now it's just time to go out and get it done.

Which time 2:19:44 or 2:22?
Now if I told you that I am sure you would insult me either way (that the letsrun theme, ha). I thought everyone on here by now knows that I am going for SUB 2:20 this time around.

"The one that haunts me the most is actually the last aid station," he said. "I was feeling pretty dry. I tried to take some water. I actually ended up slowing and turning to take water because they couldn't get water to me for some reason.

I am nowhere near your level in running, but I keep reading the part about you getting a little bit dried out and since everyone else is full of advice and I have often been told I am full of it too...
If you are already feeling dryness in your mouth, it was the last or last two aid stations you missed drinking from. Pay attention the the 2nd and 3rd from the finish aid stations--those will be the critical ones that might allow you to pass the last one. You will have more time to take a big drink and still recover the lost second or two. It also may give you the option to skip the last one if there is any kind of congestion at the last table.
A few seconds of internal relaxing (mental not physical) may have driven the thoughts of cramps away. The fear of the watch and the approaching finish line can create all sorts of demons to surface. I used to use the oxymoron of "concentrated relaxing" for the 30 to 40 strides I would take to drive the hamstring demons away.
Whatever, don't do anything new this close to race day (you race, I run).
Best wishes to you.
Hindsight is 20/20. That's just it there was NO congestion at the last aid station. I ran alone from about the half on last year. When I said I felt a bit dry it was more of an expression that reality. I felt like I could use that last drink. I start drinking at 4 miles and drink every two miles after that. Why the 10,000 volunteers at that last station had trouble getting me a drink (when I was all alone) and I had to slow and turn is beyond me, but it happened. Obviously if I had a choice now I would skip it and run harder from there to the finish line, duh.
Go get it, Chad.
Chad,
Good Luck man, reading articles about other guys like you makes me want to train even harder and reach my new goals.
Don't train harder, train smarter, is what they say. Obviously depending on where you are starting from you may have to train harder too. But sometimes I make that mistake get all pumped up after reading something or a workout or race and revise my training, etc. I think I forgot the smarter part this last year and got hurt. Don't let this happen to you, be smart from the start, ha.
Good luck Chad. Hope the weather is kind!
Good luck Chad...
Kick some serious A$$!!!
Cheers!
Brett and Suzy
Thanks guys.
Hey Brett I think the writer of the article must be a relative of yours or something, ha.
