Hi all!
There are so many similarities between what we all experience! I have been dealing with pain since 2004 (16 years)! It all started after I ran a marathon. Pain started in my hip joint and over the years it has spread up and down my body. My lower back, right QL started getting super tight, then right TFL, IT band, right psoas and illiacus, right adductor, right quad and knee and is now affecting my right foot as well. Years down the road I also began having pain in my right shoulder which was diagnosed as a tear and impingement. To add to that I also have pain upper/middle back only on my right side. I have a tight neck on both sides, but that is the only part that's on both sides of my body.
Since the marathon, I have been trying to stay active. I weight lift (not heavy) and still run once in a while but I pay for it the next day when I get pain. There was a period of about 3 months when I didn't exercise and it hurts as well, so rest didn't help any. I have no other health condition that could have contributed to this. Pain gets worse if I am stressed, anxious or if I didn't get enough sleep. It also seems to decrease when I'm on vacation so that makes me think it's stress related. I am right handed so maybe that's contributing as well.
I have seen many specialists and they all have different diagnosis, from anterior pelvic tilt, unstable SI joint, unaligned atlas, weak pelvic floor, weak right glute and psoas, tight right psoas, to emotional trauma from the past and it's all in your head. MRIs show nothing except for a little big of inflammation, a tiny tear on my hamstring which said was nothing and my shoulder is impinged. I have done lots of PT, massage, chiro, acupuncture, Prolozone injections, foundation training, strength training, meditation, NKT, trigger point therapy, graston technique.
What helps? I love my foam roller and yoga balls to release the tight muscles and I try to activate the "sleeping muscles" which seems to help. I love getting deep massages and feel amazing after a chiro treatment (I just found a good one that adjusted my atlas). Nothing lasts very long though, so have to keep doing daily exercises.
Most of the time pain is not severe, maybe 3-4 out of 10 so I just deal with it on daily basis. My original goal was to get out of pain completely, but at this point I am just trying to manage it as best as I can and figure out what helps it and I would like to get to a point where I don't have to worry about getting a hip replacement when I'm older!
My best guess is that my body is a master of compensation. One muscle got lazy long ago, when my alignment was off and my body compensated and learned how to activate other muscles to help keep the body upright. I didn't do the "right" treatment from the get go and the compensation spread affecting other muscles.
