The kids have been training hard. Its early but from what I hear they want to succeed.

I speak from the perspective of being a 4:05 miler in high school over 30 years ago - I can attest that overhyped experience can overshadow the development of a strong and balanced sense of humility and confidence (which for most comes from 60-70 miles a week of consistent training, moving up to more in the later college years).
And I couldn't help but note that Tom Graves son Griff performed well in his first collegiate outing. And glad to see Chris Fox is building a strong team.
Ok folks - let's guess who "really again" is. Someone in the early to mid 70s who ran 4:05 in HS...probably not a West Coaster....who? Is it Vince Cartier (Scotch Plains Fanwood HS, same as Nehemiah) - probably not? can't be Draddy who did it in '79 and doesn't post here.....who could it be?????
Craig Virgin??
Heres a list of the possible's .......from 72 to 78......those that ran 4:05.9 or better in the outdoor or indoor mile.....or 3:47 or better in the outdoor or indoor 1500
Matt Centrowitz
Curtis Beck
Dirk Lakeman
Mark Schilling
Terry Cotton
Craig Virgin
Reed Fischer
Ron Addison
Rudy Chapa
John Gregorek
Thom Hunt
Vince Cartier
Theres your list.....

You forgot John Winger, Russell Zitsky and Sargeant Hulka.
Over 30 would rule out Gregorek since he was in '78. Hunt would post under his own handle or something more creative than "really again". Virgin was a good guess but unless he changed personalities and actually stopped self promoting, he also would be more apparent. Hmmm.....perhaps "really again" is fibbing. Any guesses?

Stop before you start.
really again wrote:(My brother was a similar runner - 3:48 1500 meters as an 11th grader - but still managed to be all conference in a major conference and painfully skip under 14 minutes for 5k - the consistent training did it).

Many thanks....my Bull Sh#t detecter was buzzing and now you've confirmed
sounds like assuma territory?
It looks like the new regime has focused only on the present and has dropped any references to the past. Try to find a listing of school records or top ten lists on the PSU website. You can't forget those who came before you!!!
Alum have paid their dues at Penn State and have helped this track/xc gain such a high standard. If they're so appalled by the current regime, they should organize and complain to the Penn State athletic administration. I'm sure it would not be the first complaint they've heard about Beth Alford.

Dear Pollyana - yeah, we'll just get a group of folks to petition the AD to fire the first woman head of mens and womens T&F at PSU. I'm sure Tim Curley will be receptive to that approach, considering how successful he's been at convincing his 81 year old football coach to retire (maybe they're all smoking the same herbs as the recently arrested defensive linemen). PSU is stuck with a track coach hired under the pretense of a national search when such a search was never conducted.
JoePa will either die on the job or pull a Woody Hayes. Word from Bryce Jordan is that BAS is not well liked by many of the coaches from other sports! What a shock.
so how'd they look at Iona? Seems like they ran pretty well, beating Navy and Lehigh and some other good competition. Borchers didn't run, but good spread from 1-5. Navy was ranked 5th in the region. Michigan took the team competition fairly easily, PSU was second. link below.
Who did Chris Johnson recruit? Not the gals who won...
Its a little better, their best guy ran this week. I think people were making too big of a deal about the meet last week, but they are still really bad. Beating navy and lehigh is not that great of an accomplishment.

A little better? If it was a dual meet Michigan beats them 16-44.
"Pretty sure he was talking about the women PSU sprinters, who, despite the cold weather, were able to win NCAA's in the 400m and 4x400m.[/quote]
Thats due to Chris Johnson - great recruiter. as a side note, he may be the dumbest outspoken man i've ever met. many agree. he is constantly on his phone. very annoying man, but again gets the job done."
RU SURE is absolutely right! The sprint group that he has was handed to him by the previous coach. He did a reasonable job of coaching them with a lot of low points and then capped it off with a great NCAA's. But Hunter, Cox, Blake, etc. etc. were already there. He has done very littleto add to that great group, but that is probably because they are spending their money on XC,and more distance runners that Beth Sullivan wont help develop. But we will see. Funny thing is though... its funny that Penn State XC is even a topic... they have been insignificant for years. Discounting of course, their sprinters and throwers track successes and Franek (steeple).
It was a little better. Syracuse went 1-6 on them and they are not as good of a team as michigan. Granted, lex williams didnt run but that would still be 1-5 on penn state
2nd at Mid-Atlantic Regionals, Good news for the Penn State University. Their Mens and Womens teams seemed to go in opposite directions. Women start out strong, then bonk their last two. Men start slow, then impress.
