who said anything about gay? its only gay if u kiss afterwards.
DMR 1000, I don't actually go to school there and have only a few connections in the area. However, I do know that every year tons of kids camp out and make the trip to wherever to support their teams. I also know that SLU is in the middle of bumf*** and everyone will have to be there the night before...
so I figure why not throw a transient drunken rave in the parking lot/course untill we get thrown out or pass out. The later we stay up the sooner the race will be anyways and everyone loves drunken supporters.
Plus If I am wasted I will be way more prone to fight that asshole from slu who wheres the armored hat every year with the flag.
again, around 8-9ish in the parking lot across from the start unless anyone has a better idea or is willing to host.
ok i agree with cortland up top, but i think they have to run a little better than they did at SUNYACs to do so. the G spot is going to put up a tough fight for 2nd. and as far as 5-10 goes P burg and Fred town have been very close all season. Rochesters preformance the other day was great but can they continue? i see these positions as roll of the dice.
we will see
1. Cortland
2. Geneseo
3. NYU
4. St. Laurence
5. TCNJ
6. Ithaca
7. Plattsburg
8. Rochester
9. Fredonia
I think you're right here.
It seems easy for people to make too much of these states results. SLU looks fine whereas Ithaca looks awful?
Perhaps Hodge also ran easy, or maybe he just had a bad day. The times mean nothing, its on a course that might be a minute slow on a good day, plus it was raining and thick with mud.
Still, Ithaca looked no worse than anyone, besides a few runners having off days. Ithaca's 1 and 3 from SPACs (Hodge and Walker, who ran 25:49 and 26:17 at Saratoga) were the 4 and 6 guys at states. Yet Shea finally ran well again, placing only about 10 seconds behind Bell (who ran a good race and was also sub 26 at saratoga).
Obviously it is disheartening for a team to have guys not run well this late in the season, but if they all put it together at the same time, the team still looks fine.
States means nothing...whos to say who ran "tempo" or "all out"? You can't say that for one team and not the others
This whole tailgate party sounded sounded like a questionable idea to me even before I realized it was spearheaded by a complete idiot.
Your lack of common sense and respect is unfathomable. With no affiliation to the school you would host your own party on their course for the stated purpose of playing drinking games and getting rowdy? On top of that, in the face of St. Lawrence putting forth a great deal of effort and graciously hosting Regionals you’ll call their supporters assholes? Wow, staggering! If you are under the impression that everyone likes drunken supporters I suggest you question some individuals other than football or lacrosse players/fans. Regionals is going to be an incredible race and if you can’t appreciate that and you feel you need to supplement that excitement with intoxicated idiocy I encourage you to get a head start on any tailgate party you will want to throw at Oberlin for nationals (I hope your patient) because that will not be welcomed at SLU.
If anybody wishes to get together on Friday night I suggest The Hoot Owl bar . It’s the driveway on the right just before you cross the railroad tracks as you head to the course from the rt. 11/ Park street intersection in Canton. If you have any decency, stay away from the course prior to Saturday, unless you want to run it or appreciate the condition the staff and volunteers will have it in. It would be a shame to mare a great event with any needless problems.
Not a bad article on Flotrack.com

Well said Dean. After all the real reason we will all make the trek up to the North Country is to watch these guys race. Showing up to a race to cheer hung over is just a shitty thing to do to your team. That's not even considering the level of disrespect you would show towards SLU by partying on the course the night before the race.
Who is this guy who wears an armored hat and carries a flag? I don't know if I've ever seen him at a regional. However, I wouldn't suggest fighting him. For some reason I think you'd find yourself quickly out numbered.
Anyone have any predictions as far as the individual women qualifying for NATS?
What part of my post offended you? All of my statements were just blown way out of proportion.
A) St Lawrence IS in the middle of nowhere and everyone will be around the night before. No reason a tailgate cant occur. I Didn't say people should rape, pillage and plunder, and I didn't say break rules.
But if your camping out in or around the area , bring some food, a brown bag and a cigar and come celebrate.
B) If you would refer to my earlier post, I was speaking of the golf course and not the XC course. As the golf course connects to that parking lot and would allow for expanded space for people to throw down blankets and such. I had no plans to go on the course unless it was for a light run in the afternoon.
C) That person from SLU was an asshole last year. Maybe not every year, because I assume they change whoever is in that getup but my claim was not outrageous and I wasn't saying I don't like fans I just don't like people up in my face running around like an "asshole"
D) The only reason I used the term trance and the saying "pass out or get thrown out" was to hype up the meeting and have some people show up... you know...its called fun. We could just as easily go to the aforementioned bar and all talk about the meet.
E) As far as people liking drunken fans... well, they wouldn't be drunk. The people drinking would be hungover. And seeing as how those people wouldn't be racing and are still there to support any all the athletes... I don't really see how thats disrespectful. Especially when I see drunken fathers in church every Sunday.
All I'm asking is that you don't just get your panties into a twist and hall off calling me names because YOU don't think something is a good idea.
Also, DO not get all high and mighty on St. Lawrence for throwing the meet, Because first off: their school and town is going to make money... and any team with a respectable course will inevitably throw a state meet/regional/or ECAC meet every few years. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate them hosting the meet, but I feel they are semi-obligated to do it.
To conclude, I'm just looking for the fun I found at nationals last year, it was a great time the night before and the day off and I hope everyone else feels the same. Good luck to all except DeanLauer21 :)
Count me in for a pre nights party. I don't think "Love racing campus safety" meant the race location but the parking lot across because of its location next to the townhouses and golf course which have been host to several large gatherings.
Good observation DeanLauer21 and mikejones it is going to be an incredible race I dont think anyone will deny that, especially the people that are driving hours and hours to come see it, some of which might think it would be a great idea to peacefully gather, talk running and have a few or many beers rather than sitting in a hotel room on letsrun. That takes nothing away from any of the runners running the next day and is instead a celebration of the sport and the people we are all making the drive to see and cheer on.
So whether at the hoot owl, parking lot, golf course some sort of gathering should and will happen. So if your not interested ignore, if you are lets figure out time location.
Any person participating in a party will be chased until caught. We are not afraid to chase you through swamps or even across the Little River. Our campus security will work with Canton police and the Boarder Patrol to track YOU down. Our new fleet of gators is primed and ready to go. Go ahead, make our night.
Ranch D., 2 questions why was that in response to me when I suggest that we gather either at the local bar or a parking lot peacefully? Secondly what is the boarder patrol? Maybe your SLU educated brain can define that for the rest of the world.
Why are you so against the idea? A few beers and gathering never hurt anyone. If the parking lot is a bad idea say it, I am sure another situation could have been arranged. We don't go to SLU, we don't know campus rules. Don't threaten us and say we can't party. Give us details, how is the hoot owl?, any other bars with in walking distance? Since your apparently not racing and go to SLU why don't YOU host a party.
The only thing that is going on here is an attempt to get together with other runners and share a few beers.
Also I will make your night, assuming your a st. lawrence hoe.
Let me get this straight. You guys are arguing for the right to stand outside in a parking lot and drink beer on November 15th at 9 pm in upstate NY? When you realize why that is a bad idea you can come to the bar. The first round is on me, I'll be the one with an armored helmet holding a flag.
First, let me apologize. In the initial post proposing a pre-race party it was specified that any rule breaking should be avoided. I believe those intentions were lost in the subsequent posts about drinking games, rowdiness and fighting but some credit is due regarding that forethought on your part. I also take back what I said about you being a complete idiot. There is evidence that you comprehend the basics of proper English and that you are capable of navigating the internet.
St. Lawrence, I believe, operates at a loss when hosting a regional type race. The cross country programs must get the support (both finical and other wise) of the athletic department on the whole as well as the school administration in order to host the meet. I’m sure St. Lawrence does feel obligated to host such a meet because they know they run a first class operation and only about four/five teams volunteer to hold the event on a regular basis. There is, inevitably, a residual monetary gain by the town of Canton, mostly by lodging and dining establishments. I am sure that the coaching staff and the school would disapprove of this gathering based on the fact that, while your intentions are good, it will brake many of the campus rules i.e. public drinking, drinking games and potentially underage drinking. Furthermore, regardless of what course you planned to amble off to after you were good and liquored up it’s school property and I think we’d all agree that SLU would like to keep those spaces free of empties; and don’t tell me that you were going to operate on a ‘carry in, carry out’ honor code. That brings me to how I was personally offended by the idea. Your proposed party is akin to telling a host that has invited you over for dinner that you are planning on pre-games the meal but you’ll stay away from the dining room and just booze in the kitchen with little thought of how that would sit with the hosts. Have I articulated myself sufficiently?
There are four bars in downtown Canton, the Hoot Owl being the closest at just over 400 meters from the start line. The Hoot is your typical college, hole-in-the-wall bar. Otherwise there is a bar at the University Inn which is a little more upscale. There is also a dance club the serves beer and a sports bar, if you are so inclined. All are within walking distance of the course. Hopefully I have been of some help.
I’m sorry for contributing to the deviation from the focus of this thread, running discourse.
Mr. Lauer, I like your style.
