What the hell are you talking about. She finished fourth in her heat and had the fourth OVERALL time in the prelims.

Lisa ran 4.00.6 in a mixed race a few weeks back.

Qualifying today was a stroll for her, she wasn't even troubled.

The question is whether Lagat came to the U.S. just to run for the country or did he come here for a better life and to start a family in a country he loves, like millions of other immigrants. I think the latter is your answer. When Lagat became an American citizen, he was the number 2 in the world, paid by Nike and didn't need the U.S. system to be a great runner. If it was just to run in the Olympics he could have went anywhere in the world and gotten paid to switch nationalities.

Why did your family come here? Why did they become American citizens? Don't tell me you're a Native American. This continent was populated relatively recently and even the original inhabitants came here for a better life, just like Lagat.

I have a bigger problem with athletes like Tomescu, Lidia Simon or Mara Yamauchi who run for their birthplace, but have made somewhere else their home.

Yamauchi works for the British government. She's still British even though she lives in Japan.

Lagat did not switch willy nilly. He wanted to be a US citizen for a LONG time, even when he was running at wazzu he talked about it.

Rowbury isn't getting attention for two reasons. First, she's a distance runner. Distance runners get very little publicity, especially when they have yet to really win anything. Second, she's a woman. Like it or not, male athletes have higher profiles in the world, even if they accomplish less. Flanagan won bronze in the women's 10k. Did anyone outside of LetsRun really care? The major media networks only mentioned it in passing. If Teg wins a bronze I guarantee you'll see way more press over his accomplishment.

What time will she be on TV tonight? Will NBC show her heat at all?

I'm going to be an asshole and say this. I looked at the time progression on IAAF for Shannon Rowbury. She is the only 1500m runner in world history to drop over 13 seconds off her 1500m time in a 5 month period. If you understand the 1500m, that's A LOT of time and a HUGE jump if you're running at the elite level. A human body can only go so far within one season before it would need rest. With every running event there are certain time barriers a runner needs to break through, and these barriers are no easy task. Shannon Rowbury seems to have broken through several time barriers within one season. And again, I'm going to be an asshole and say this, she just happens to have the same coach as Shalane Flanagan who is also conveniently running spectacular times this year. Both women are coming off of injuries from last year which it seems a bit strange and abnormal that they would "both" be able to run so phenomenally, Shalane Flanagan breaking two American records, in the 5,000m and 10,000m, and Shannon Rowbury who almost broke the 4:00 barrier this year. And again, if you're a 1500M runner it takes women years to do, what Shannon Rowburry's done in only a few months. Not even women like Maryam Jamal Youssef, who is considered to be one of the greats has made such huge leaps in their times. Also, it just so happens "both" women went to college and are training in an area that is infamous for drug use. Marion Jones, CJ Hunter, Trevor Graham, Justin Gatlin, and the whole group all trained in that area(within a 10 mile radius of each other) between the two schools of NC State and UNC. These may be just coincidences, but these are big coincidences.

I have been saying that ever since Adidas Track Classic. Every time I make such comments the site administrators promptly remove my postings. It would be nice if we were wrong, but most likely we aren't. Whenever you see smoke one can assume that there is fire. I hope nobody makes a posting of "well she is passing drug test" because Marion Jones and all the Russian 1500m cheats have still till this day never failed a drug test.
