I really hope it's not Whittlesey either, the men will NOT be happy, guarantee that many will leave. As far as the women are concerned they could use a kick in the personality ass.

"As far as the women are concerned they could use a kick in the personality ass."
meaning? I'd love to discuss.
So what is the scholarship situation for the men at UNC like? Is that a legitimate reason why they've been terrible?
they dont have a male xc scholarship at all
so its a bit of a problem
No Way word is getting married. He is trying to jetison that psycho - has been trying to for quite some time and has tried to be nice and break it off...

is this b/c UNC xc isn't fully funded or b/c they choose to give all their money to track and field people?
Surprised either way. unc either doesn't have enough money (unc hurting for money, that can't be?) or that they choose to be non-competitive, why?
mostly the latter, although the previous poster was incorrect, as the african on the team, kipligat i believe, is on a full ride out of necessity, and i believe a few others have partials
talked to a few uva guys. they are all hoping this guy does not get hired. in case if he's wondering whether the athletes want him or not; they don't
The african is on full but isnt on the team anymore; they brought him over and put their first full into a distance guy during whits tenure and it turns out he sucked and wasnt legit so they cut him; a few of their milers are on less than half, and they have one 800 guy on money, but craddock wants to have a track team that puts money into sprints hurdles jumps and throws. their cross top 7 at ACCs didnt have anyone on money the past few years. it is actually their stated goal to have a mens cross team made of walkons so they can divert fundng into track
if thats true then can you really blame whittlesey 100% I realize that the runners still havent really developed into even mid to low 14's, but these arent the cream of the crop talent wise, or even the 2nd layer

I know that about a year ago or so, the men's distance group at UNC had a meeting with Whittlesy (sp?) about how they are not treated the same as the women which had become obvious to most people. He told them that his priorities in order were women's MD, women's LD, then men's MD, and last was men's LD. If you look at their success, that is pretty much how it breaks down over the last several years. Is that order dictated to him by Craddock, probably. Are their scholarships divided that way, probably. I have been told by a couple of the guys on the team that he is a dick to a lot of people, particularly the guys. He can no doubt coach and he certainly has the science background (PhD), but he is not personable to at least most of the guys. I have spoken with him a few times and thought he was nice but I don't deal with him on a daily basis.
You also have to wonder why none of his studs from a few years ago stuck around to continue being coached by him. Did they not like him or did he choose to not continue working with them so he could focus on his college runners? Erin Donohue made no bones about the fact that she was very unhappy with how her college career wound up. Shalane moved on quickly and so did Alice Schmidt. They all ran well for him while there but of course, they were also very good coming in. If they were happy about the training, I would think they would have stuck around. I believe Shalane may even live around there still so that tells me they didn't leave because of the environment.
Yes, UNC had a Kenyan on their team for a while a year or two ago but he was possibly the worst Kenyan I have ever seen...thick legs even. When he arrived there, his bio didn't even mention any running background...if I remember right, he was more of an accomplished table tennis player. They redshirted him for a year and then he sucked ass the next and then they got rid of him. I also heard from a couple of different sources that Sam Chelanga had contacted UNC about coming to run for them when he was looking for schools to come over here to. They turned him down. He only knew of one other school so he ended up at Farleigh Dickinson and later Liberty. Sam is going to be a contender for the individual crown this fall. According to many at Liberty, he is better than Josh McDougal and often hands it to Josh on longer workouts. Josh has more speed in the shorter races. Can you imagine turning down someone and having them later become one of the best. Big mistake....Huge! haha.

So thats what, 3-4 scholarships for MD and LD runners? Sounds like just about every other program in the country (save maybe the top 25-30).

unc has solid budgets - but not what you would think - only 4 full time coaches - one coach is paid for out of the track budget - as is the admin guy -
scholarship wise they are fully funded on the men's side - they just totally spread the money around - just a small amount to distance
