Yung Sung Leal is a classic. That just slipped my mind.
That James Stallworth was a talent from Tulure. Didn't he go to jail. I don't think Amy Skiersz (sp) was a waste by any means. Great career at Arizona. Did I hear she had some type of tumor removed from her thigh. She ran well in Pac 10 and NCAA for four years.

Oh yeah. Now I've read the thread.
Liz Mueller -- a big friggin'-A to that. I wonder how many here even know the name. Two Foot Locker titles and something like a 2:04 800, out of Waterford, CT. Doubt she even went to college, just kind of a bad news type from what little I know.

It sounds like you might be from Texas, so having said that I would agree with you about Steve.
How about going old school and the biggest waste of H.S distant talent from Texas has to be John Holmes from Pasadena Dobie. If you don't believe me ask John McDonnell. 4:03 in H.S. and never did a thing after that.
I realize Joe Falcon did run 3:49 but I believe he had so much more to go than just than one run.
Mark and Eric Mastalir
Norm Olgilve who went to Drake.

Instead, he got beat at the NCAA outdoor champs that year by a freshman from Villanova and then dropped out of the three-mile race.
Actually, Marty was a sophmore (and freshmen weren't eligible to run varsity)
Thanks for the correction. Say, why did Bryan McElroy transfer from KU to Villanova? Do you think Jumbo Elliott was a better coach than Bob Timmons?
I should have also pointed out that KU needed the points that Ryun could have won in the three mile to win the NCAA title. KU and San Jose State (led by Lee Evans, John Carlos, Ronnie Ray Smith, Sam Davis, and Kirk Clayton) were vying for the championship. After Ryun finished second behind Liquori, Timmons had Ryun run the three mile. Ryun dropped out. The following week (or was it two weeks later?), Ryun dropped out of the AAU mile championship, which was won by Liquori.

Trejo is NOT a waste of talent, you Troll. Stop busting his stones.
Ian Dobson
Living in FL I would have to say Sam Vasquez. This guy looked like the real deal in hs, but flamed out after one year at Ark. It's a shame because I really thought he had the talent.

Maybe these three had too much success too early and felt too much pressure. Huge success in high school. Still I'd be happy to have had their success than have never tasted it at all.
Amber Trotter (won Footlocker by over 30 seconds and set course record)
Kim Mortenson (9:48 3200 meters in high school)
Annie St Geme (sub 4:40 for 1600 in high school and don't think she has run in college)
