Also, there is no tactical advantage for better position if EVERYONE is using blocks. The better starters will get better position just like happens today with the standing start.
Yeah. In the 100 everyone is going all out for the full distance. In the 200 there is a slight amount of pacing and in the 400 some more, but in the 800 no one is ever going all out except in the last stretch.
In the 800, a slight increase in time over the 1st 100m from starting with blocks would get swallowed up in whatever pacing decisions are made over the middle 600-700 meters and wouldn't affect the outcome of the race.
