No.
Webb is faster than every person posting on this site and most of the entire world for that matter. So until you have run the times he has I would suggest you keep your mouth closed. You all have no room to speak...absolutely none. Grow up and stop all the gossiping.
I will run a 1500 today and no matter how fast I am, my time will be faster than Webb because he is not running a 1500 today. On the days Webb actually runs and is faster than me, I will honor the Nike "do not post unless you are faster than Webb" rule.
If only Webb wanted to race ... really wanted to race

I haven't bothered to read the rest of this thread, but the statement about "salvaging" his season is utterly stupid.
There is no salvaging his season if he didn't make the cut to Beijing. Webb can only go to the National Invitation Tournament while the real contenders duke it out in Beijing.
Webb may go somewhere and run faster than a 1500m finalist, which he has done numerous times - But, and life is full of buts - Webb has been unable to place in a big championship race when it counts. Posting a fast time is something that Webb has already done, doing so again, outside of a major championship event, proves nothing.
Why are the Olympics so much more importan than the world championships? It's basically the same race, a two heat and then final 1500 meter. Really in the WC's you can have better competition because all past champions are allowed back in no matter their finish at the trials or whatever, so America could send four guys next summer in the 1500 to the WC.s
My guess is you are some 16 year old high school kid who has never really dealt with any real adversity in your running career or your life. You probably jack off to Without Limits and think it's cool to come on to letsrun messageboards and act like you are some hard ass runner who trains rain or shine, pain or no pain. And you probably don't have a girlfriend, a job, or any meaningful relationships in your life.
Webb is fine. He was trying to peak for Bejing and the fact of the matter is US Mileing isn't what it was in even 2004. You can try to peak for Bejing and when Manzano and Lomong are peaking for Eugene, expect to beat them.
My guess is by the end of the summer Webb will have run a 3:30 someplace, and Manzano and Lomong will be out of the first round in Bejing. Not saying Webb is better then those two, or vice versa, it's just a matter of when you time your peak.
I'm a bit skeptical about peaking

Oh, the old "you have to have run just as fast as runner x to be allowed to critize him"-argument. It´s just as retarded as usual.

I've never raced Webb head to head, so why do you think he's so much better than me? Yeah, you can talk all you want about times and such, but we all know that the most important thing you bring to the start line is heart. And just like Rod Tidwell I'm ALL heart baby!!!
I own Webb until proven otherwise....... plus I have glorious locks or dark hair.

i hate to be one of those people, and if just one person was getting this wrong I'd let it go, but many of you are spelling it wrong, the proper spelling is "pique" and "piqued"
So it should be "Webb did not time his pique right, he was hoping to pique at the Olympics"
I am tired of people defending Webb by saying he is peaking for Beijing. The fact of the matter is that Webb is not peaking for Beijing because he is not running in Beijing. I actually think saying he is having a bad year is a better excuse for Webb then he is peaking for Beijing. If he was dumb enough to peak for a race that he had to qualify to get into but couldn't qualify due to this peaking then I think he is even dumber then we first thought. The first thing that Webb should have worried about was qualifying. Then he should have worried about the olympics. I don't much care if Manzano and Lamong won't make the finals like everyone argues. What I care about is that they actually will be running. In an olympic year the only thing that matters is the olympics and Webb made a very large mistake in not being ready to qualify. If he wasn't such a headcase early on this year I think he would have qualified. Please stop giving the he was peaking for Beijing comment because he should have worried more about getting to Beijing.
In case no one has seen this: "Early start lists included American Alan Webb, the winner here last year, but according his manager Ray Flynn, Webb was never confirmed for the race and will not be in the Stade de France tonight."

Don't forget these rules too: Unless you have manboobs and can shoot 79 at the British Open, do not criticize Phil. Also, no criticism of Barry Bonds unless your hat size has grown 5 sizes and you've hit over 700 homeruns in the major leagues.
There have been many theories regarding why Webb didn't make the olympic team but nobody really has identified the true cause until now:
Alan Webb did not make the olympics because of the following:
1)He didn't want to miss any pre-season NFL games
2)The junk food in China is really bad
3)He couldn't take his high school party friends with him
4)The pollution and smog would make every day a bad hair day

no, it is pique and piqued
from Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Main Entry: pique
Meaning: a transient feeling of wounded vanity : resentment
Pronunciation: \ˈpēk\
Function: noun
Date: 1592
As in: In 2008, Alan Webb mis-timed his pique and experienced a transient feeling of wounded vanity at the Olympic Trials instead of experiencing pique in Beijing.

The real question will be between DFL and DNF.
I'm not sure which it will be, but after this race Nike will make Webb turn in his hair and call it a season.
DNS. Close enough.
I think it is certainly now time to dust off the old hair rack and call it a season.
Stick a fork in Webb. He's done.
If you hear meowing coming from Webb's suburban Va home, that's because that's the kind of sound they make.
Will someone please take him to the "Webb Whisperer" or something & help him find his mojo?
I picture him shaking under the covers in his hotel room in a fetal position.
Did he go to Paris just for the croissants and big-nosed French women?
I bet meet directors are reneging on Webb fees since as a non-Olympian his marquee value has shrink big time.
If he wants to be a champion, he should start acting like one.
Adversity does not build character, it reveals it.
