Ma Kettle get real and go screw yo self
Your maturity keeps on shining through. Really helps out your bashing of Martin Goulet, who has done more for Athletics in Canada than you could ever hope to. Check out his CV if you can't comprehend that.

You guys/gals all need to take a pill and chill the heck out.
Yes, you've all vented -- gotten whatever built up angst off your chests. Now get back to supporting each and every athlete, no matter his/her ability. Forget about the politics, obviously there is nothing that can be done about it on this forum.
Run for political office!

I disagree with several things in that post. Forums like this are sometimes seed germinators. I cannot support a 10.4 100m guy going when Gillis gets screwed. And some other suff. But thanks anyway.
stuff.

What the F#ck are we doing sending a 4x100 relay team anyway.
Just curious, but have you actually read the Olympic qualifying criteria, both AC's and that of the IAAF?
When it comes to the 4x100 relay, AC is using the same standards as the IAAF, namely that they be top 16 ranked in the world. It doesn't say anything about the individual performances of the relay members, just what their time is when they function as a unit to get the baton around the track.
Trying to compare the relays to Gillis is a strong sign you either haven't bothered to read the criteria before ranting in public.

Marketing!! are you kidding, the whole program is old and tired, it's a marketing nightmare.
Are you referring to AC marketing, COC marketing or the multi-million dollar marketing of the corporate COC partners?
I get the impression you are thinking of something other than what I was referring to.
I don't even know who's running for Canada.
You really can't blame the system for that failing. The team has been publicly announced and discussed. If you haven't made the effort to learn for yourself who is running for Canada, it's not for lack of news releases, media articles or message board discussions.
I don't suppose any of your pro-Goulet people have a defence for his actions the night of the selection meeting?
"6:00pm: Dinner served by COC. Eat and hang out with other Beijing-bound track people.
6:35pm: Meeting with AC and COC people about what to expect in Beijing. A powerpoint tour of the Bird's Nest and the athlete's village. All of the perks of going to the Olympics are discussed. Everyone in the room got to see a preview of their three weeks in Asia.
8:10pm: Meeting wraps and everyone walks down to the indoor track to pick up Team Canada Nike gear and sized for their uniforms.
8:12pm: As he stands in line to be sized for his Olympic gear, he is approached by Martin Goulet and told that he's not going. Other athletes in the indoor track watch this while they recieve their Olympic gear..."
I've yet to meet a distance athlete who will come to the defence of Goulet in conversation. He is disliked by most of those who have to deal with him.
I haven't seen eye to eye with Kevin on a number of things over the past couple of years but arguing that he should be left off the team when he has achieved all of the relevant requirements is just plain stupid. We certainly don't need more subjectivity brought into the selection process. He fullfilled the requirements to go so he should go. No further debate is needed on the topic. I believe Eric should get to go but as it has been pointed out several times, meeting the rising star criteria did not guarantee selection. My biggest criticism of the whole process is why he wasn't selected. If he wasn't selected because they didn't feel he could be competitive in a future Olympic then okay. I don't agree but I can live with that. If they didn't select him because he got beat in the 5k at the nationals then that to me is BS. If running a fast 5k at nationals was a requirement then this should have been communicated to him and his coach. My 2cents anyways. Matt

I though that was the special olympics?
That is probably the only team the Mr. Goulet is qualified to look after.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Athletics Canada adds Eric Gillis to Olympic nomination list
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today that 10 000 metre runner Eric Gillis from Antigonish, NS has been added to the Olympic Games nomination list.
Gillis who currently resides and trains in Guelph, ON was not on the original list when the team was nominated July 7 but the National Team Committee re-considered their decision as new elements were presented during the appeal process.
Martin Goulet, Athletics Canada’s Chief High Performance Officer endorses the decision, “The National Team Committee has a high level of confidence in Eric’s program and coaching, this, combined with the fact that the appeal brought to light some grey zones in Athletics Canada’s Olympic Selection Criteria led us to rule in favour of the athlete”.
The number of track and field athletes nominated to the Olympic team now stands at 31.
I would like to add that I'm honestly ashamed of some of the posters in this thread, who I assume are Canadian, for the way they've bashed real people, as anonymous cowards. Some apologies are owed. Man up, eh?
Agreed. (Do they miss me at TNFN, Pete? (Hero.))
