all satch team- ARMSTRONG, PAIGE, SANDERS, SATCHMAN - ALT MY DOG satchee-
But seriously, anyone know when they announce this team?
---Costanza
They will win by at least 3 seconds anyways, no matter who the pick
I would prolly pick the squad like you did, and run Neville in the rounds...
However, they do not formally "announce" the actual relay team until shortly before the race..
They do choose individuals for the relay pools soon, but I dont know exactly when...
I say:
Wariner
Merritt
Clement
Spearmon
Neville
Carter
But with Merritt and Wariner on the squad it doesn't really matter who the other 4 are.
I hope x-man gets some serious 400m races in before the olympics if hes fit and be ready to run some crazy fast 400m legs, then concentrate on 200m after those 400's.
He needs to save his season a bit and stay injury free for a month or 2, 400's are perfect for that, not some crazy fast 100's n 200's whioch are screwin his ankles up further, plus his dodgey knee.
Trials 1,2,3,4 at Trials warrant chance for Olympic Medal

Taylor
Clement

1-6th fastest 2008 Times get considered also
Larry
Carter
1-6 trials finalists should be considered
Smith
Williamson
others
Betters
Spearmon
9 guys for 2 slots and a pretty sure medal.
Unless the US drops the baton they'll run about 2:56 and beat everyone handily. I believe they could medal with a team of Wariner, Merritt, Carter/Williamson/whoever, and Sanya Richards or Allyson Felix. The first three would run about 2:12-2:13 and Richards could bring them home at about 3:00. I say we do it. Hell, if she was the opening leg it'd actually give the guys after her a chance to run with someone to catch for a change.
xavier carter is injured so you can count him out.
X Man scratched from the 200 finals and didn't Qualify in the 100. Doesn't the team have to be made from athletes that were either top 4 OR qualified for another distance?
Fast splits from legs 1& 2 in Semi should give doublers the chance to save something for finals. 3:03 seems a very safe point (2007 8th fastest nation 3:04.8) so 1&2 running flat speed near PR= 1:30 means doublers can loaf( ;0 ? ) 46.5ish and have plenty if some one threatens to knock them out of the prefered lane draw. I think IAAF uses 1&2 in each semi draws for 3,4,5,6
In 2004 Wariner and Harris (gold and silver) didn't run the prelims of the 4x400, yet the team won the prelim by over 2 seconds in 2:59.30. I figure this year Wariner and Merritt would only run the final. I also imagine that the US will probably run a time in the prelim that would win gold or silver in the final.
On what basis would Xavier Carter be considered for the US Olympic team?
This is on the same board that went apeshit over Adam Goucher petitioning in to the OT's 10000m
Unbelievable.
Carter is not in need of a petition period.
Citizenship:
Athletes must be eligible to represent the U.S. in International competition and be a U.S. citizen prior to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. In addition, athletes must hold a valid U.S. Passport by July 23rd 2008.
Minimum IF standards for participation (if any):
All athletes nominated to the Olympic Team must meet the IAAF and IOC qualification standards. The qualification standards for participation are available at
.
Other requirements:
Athletes must be a USA Track & Field member in good standing at the time of the selection competition.
Nominated athletes are required to sign a USA Track & Field Statement of Conditions for participation. (USATF reserves the right to amend the Statement of Conditions subject to
USOC approval. (See Attachment A))
In order to qualify for nomination to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, athletes must compete in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials events
fullfulled by XC in 100m
except for relay team participation or qualification (See Section II. Discretionary Selection).
Even if XC did not compete it is not a petional position,XCs 2008 time ranks #6 I believe
Discretionary Selection (if applicable)
Provide rationale for utilizing discretionary selection (if any):
Relay Team members are the only athletes who will be selected utilizing discretionary selection. The IAAF allows countries to enter up to six (6) relay pool participants per gender each for the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Should the NOC enter individual athletes and a relay team in the same distance, the entered individual athletes must be included in the total of 6 athletes entered for the relay event. (Example: If the U.S. enters 3 athletes in the men's 100m these three athletes must be entered as part of the 6 man relay pool for the men's 4x100m.)
Depending upon the number of athletes entered as individuals in the 100m and 400m respectively, USATF will select the remaining athletes for the relay pool. Depending on who the sprinters entered in individual events are it is imperative that the remaining discretionary slots are filled by athletes who have the ability and skills that complement the other relay pool members.
List the discretionary criteria and explain how it will be used:
The decision to place athletes in the relay pool will be based on the Relay Coach's judgment of that athlete's ability to contribute to the success of the relay team. The Relay Coach will also take the following into consideration: 1) the athlete's ability to pass and receive the baton with either hand; 2) the athlete's ability to run the turn and/or straight leg; and 3) the athlete's availability and willingness to attend relay camps and practices 4) athlete's times run at the appropriate distances 5) the athlete's Olympic and World Championship relay experience.
In order to qualify for nomination to the 2008 Olympic Relay Pool (remaining slots), athletes must compete in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field unless excused for unforeseen circumstances prior to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field by the chair of the appropriate sports committee. This provision should only be utilized in Version 8 (March 13, 2008) 8 extreme cases and such athlete should have demonstrated Olympic and /or World Championship medal performances.
Discretionary Selection Committee
The Relay Coach in question, the Head Coach, the High Performance Division Chair (or his/her designee), the appropriate Sports Committee Chair (or his/her designee) and the AAC Chair (or his/her designee) will make the final selection of the remaining relay pool athletes. If the AAC chair chooses to use a designee that designee must meet the definition of an athlete as defined by the USOC. Members of this Committee may only vote in one capacity.
with merritt, clement, taylor, and wariner we very well could see a world record. i thought that if Clement whould have run the 4x4 final at the WC and the US would have been very close to the World record

Williamson ran 44.3 in the final, which happens to be the same time as the FASTEST split Clement has ever run. Think before you type.
X-man, Spearman and Betters have no chance of being on the relay.
Not sure whether this states that X is technically eligible or not. That makes little difference. He will not be on the 4 x 4 relay.

Clement ran a 44.57 world record from a dead start indoors. I have no doubt he's capable of running a sub 44 relay split with a running start.
