Hassay is going to Stanford. I don\'t know about the academics of the others.

Hasay is way overrated! How much better will she get given the YEARS she has been running? Chetelat has been running for only 2 years! She will go on and be the better of these two.

Chetelat does have the promise of beginner's improvement. However, Hasay has not been running like the HS boys that did not fare much better later, since they had already been running 100+++/week. She is running half of that and will have a good base to expand on later. Of course, she is probably going to have some good non-running options that might limit how long she races or it might make her less nervous eventually (a bit of a struggle for her at times, e.g. FLN).
you're crazy to think jordan is only running 50 miles, she's on a high mileage program.
also, hasay's 3200 time isn't the record. kim mortensen of thousand oaks's 9:48 is.
The question of going pro is only partially about whether they're ready to compete against other pros. It's not like when NBA players go pro, because high school phenoms don't really have to produce right away. They're signed for their potential to run fast times in the future and for their ability to endorse a brand in the present.
Look at baseball players. Number 1 overall draft picks go straight to the minors. Big teams want to sign them early, and the minors are better for developing talent than college. If these high school kids can make decent money as runners, and follow a more optimal long term development strategy, then it might make a lot of sense to go pro.
Depending on where you go to school, this might not be necessary. Rupp is obviously the model in this regard: he keeps his own coach, he peaks plans his years around international competition, he isn't over-raced.
It's smart, because college scholarships are still a great bet financially. To those who say Rupp is a pro, all I have to say is, so are all scholarship athletes. Unlike in baseball, the value of a college scholarship is comparable to a professional contract. In other sports, it makes financial sense to go pro, because you make so much more money. This is what Marijuologist is missing. Unless you're signing a Webb-level contract, the best financial decision is to take the scholarship, not to frugally and save money so you can pay for an education sometime down the road.
The way I see it, there are two factors that go into this decision:
1. Is the contract absolutely huge? If not, then it's better to stay in school.
2. Is the program a meat grinder? If so, then it's better to take a small contract and train for optimal long term development.
Yikes, sorry about that last post. If I can't even use coherent English myself, then I've clearly been grading papers for too long tonight.

she says otherwise...
Think about Hazel Clark VS. Jelimo
Think about Flanagan VS. Dibaba or Defar
If all of these races occur which they have in the past, our US peeps don't have a chance in hell in winning. I don't understand why they just don't hand in their spikes and go to work. Stupid kids........
Think about any female vs. Jelimo
Think about any female vs. Dibaba or
and they don't stand much of chance of winning, so it's not like it's just the Americans. Those stupid kids are far more talented than you and certainly will be the future of US Track and Field!
3 time state champ in 3200. 4:16 1500, 9:52 3200 is not too bad.
My reply was pure sarcasm. I agree fully that certain situations occur that should be taken advantage of. Price and Puskedra in the 800 and 2 mile is a great thing. I wish that Fernandez would be fresher and would jump into that 2 mile as well because it is going to be a lot easier to race with a rabbit and another hs kid racing you for the same goal. I mean it would be great if the two were dueling down the straight away at 8:30 pace for America.

That's what they said about Mary Decker, Kim Gallagher and Suzy Favor, etc.
Since when is having a lot of mileage early in ones life looked upon as a negative or a drawback?
One of the big reason why a lot of Africans are such better runners than most non-African runners is because they get in thousands of more miles throughout their youth. I believe Salazar said, and I'm assuming he's studied this to a degree far better than any of us, that the average Kenyan has run something like 20,000 miles by the time he is 18.
So even if people think that Hasay won't be as promising later in her years because she's already doing "high mileage", think again. All the running she has done in her youth will be a great base for her when she is in her 20's. Canova was quoted saying runners should focus a lot of aerobic base until they get into their twenties, then focus on working on specific endurance, as in a specific discipline.
I think Hasay will probably have the potential of being a greater marathoner. She has shown promise from 1500m up, but we won't really know where her future lies until she gets into her twenties. Look at Ryan Hall. Once a miler. Now a marathoner. And what a marathoner.
Okay, responding to the OP and not getting sidetracked, if I were their coach this is what I would do:
German goes to the Pre mile and becomes the fifth President versus just another very fast high school runner--this is Webb's advice and good at that. Knock out a 3:58 and bask in the glory. Then if up to it, do the NON 2mile and put that record under 8:30 fresh, or as fresh as he can be considering all the fast running as of late.
Chanelle should do continue building strength for Trials rounds, with a last bit of sharpening beforehand to maybe make the Trials finals in 2:01.xx.
Christine Babcock should take the mile down at Pre with a 4:32.xx and change, or maybe less. She has it in her to bring the record down, take a NON title and call it a stellar high school career. Using the mixed pro field at Pre could really put the mile record down there, and it's time to move Slaney and Plummer down anyway. NON would just be gravy. Her chances at the trials are nill so she should concentrate on high school post season accolades and get ready for world junior cross and freshman collegiate cross by building a good a good summer base after a couple weeks vacation after her last race.
Hasay and Chetelat. Hasay should just continue what she's doing and build for her some tremendous senior year records. For some reason I think she might head down the Zoe Nelson road, maybe because her physique can change radically from now. Chetalat should gun for a NON title since she's in that league, maybe grab the record for a year or so, then focus on building a base for her collegiate opening (without looking, she's a senior right?). She has it in her to go all American NCAA as a frosh--to early to tell if she could win in, but base, base, strength, strength, strength, will be good for her.
Babcock will polly and should call it a season. Why try and press on after setting national federation records in back to back weeks and winning her 3rd state title in the 1600. She has race a lot in the past few weeks. She doesn't have anything else to prove this year and there is too much downsize risk to continue to race.
Fernandez should choose either NON or Pre. I'd choose NON if I were him. He cannot race every weekend hard and continue to stay healthy.
Cheletet should race NON.
Hasay will prolly do Jr Nationals since she wants that and she will be dropping down for the 1500 so it will be a fresh event for her mentally. She hasn't had to race hard as often as someone like Babcock who raced mulitple events and had to run hard for many weeks.
So noone think they should try out and go to the World Junior Track and Field Championships?

the world juniors would be perfect for the athletes metioned.
i think at this point of development jordan hasay should be racing genzaba dibaba and alemesh defar not their older sisters.
these kids have great futures i think in 7-8 years if brought along right hasay and chetalat can run faster than the current american records for 5k, 10k and the marathon.
babcock in 7-8 years could break deckers long standing american record
fernandez will be excellent 1500-10k and possibly the marathon
and price should set sub 155 for a post college goal.
world juniors are perfect for them now.
ncaa is great for their development.
if they turned professional now they could easily get discouraged, they would make next to nothing in the european meets(at this point in their development) if they got a shoe contract, the companies would try to reneg if they can. people wont buy shoes because a person who is way behind and possibly lapped wears them. the companies will drop them for the next up and coming star.
i definetely think world juniors would be great for them.
and they should run ncaa run ncaa for at least 2 years and probably all 4 years. some sprinters turn pro earlier and are successful, but the usa is always great in the sprints.
They should tell a certain subset of 18:00 5k'ers to get a f*cking life!
perfectly written, thanks.
