Merritt beat Wariner in Berlin....44.03-44.07.....still a ways to go until it really matters I suppose, be he's not accustomed to losing.

....apparently it'll be on ESPN coming up soon in their coverage of the meet.

ESPN 2
WEJO and ROJO must be delighted. They have been ragging on him a lot. It is surprising to see them rooting against an American who has brought honor and glory to this country in the past.
he lost by a foot or so. he had a minor injury last month, so I expect him to be 100% by tht trial and games.
This should add drama to an event where the only excitement was in the quality of Jeremy Wariner's wins. I can't wait til Beijing.
While this is nothing to panic about, the old Wariner wouldn't have lost.
Hasn't Warriner over the years had a fair few losses? Remember him losing to Tim Benjamin at one point and obviously a DNF at Sheffield a year or two back
i think this is his 1st "proper" loss in years
the dnf doesn't really count & against benjy he just cruised around as if in a training run but was caught napping as benjy charged past him on his blind-side
Yeah, it says on the front page it's Wariner's 1st loss since 2005 in a race that he's finished, that's amazing....
No doubt. I saw him run a 400 two weeks ago and he really struggled the last 100, running @ 44.5. He was much sharper today. He will be ready for 43.50 by the time o the Trials. Merritt may be as well -- but I sort of doubt it. Maybe 43.8

I know that others share this view, and I'll admit I don't know the particular circumstances of that race. Nevertheless, in my mind if you line up at the start and somebody else gets to the finish (legally) before you do, you've lost and he's beaten you.
Wariner stumbled from his blocks at the start and stopped running
angelo won in 45.26 ( albeit wet track & probably cold ) - that's not the kind of time jw loses to when he completes a race, so it's a huge stretch to consider that a "real" loss

Glory, yes. Honor, no.
What was not honorable about his winning golds at the Olympics and Worlds?

Hey, fella its inter-american rivalry so its not like its a step down or anything like that. I mean Leshawn is an American too right?
Frankly, to be completely honest, Merrit might have busted a fast one way too soon. Remember, Wariner is a squirmy little rascal and he's probably just prarie dogging it. In July or something he'll go run a 43.6.
I mean, he's done this 4 times, run slow at first then gotten progressively faster. Meanwhile everyone else in the 400 is erratic or reaches a plateau early season at best. 44.07 is slow for Wariner also. He probably did it to take the pressure off and make Leshawn feel like the big man for a month or so.
counting Wariner out is a wee-bit assanine and dimwitted, but then again, no one ever said you should bet on the sure winner.
He was just overtrained. He'll peak when it matters.

no, he's a squirmy little rascal, prarie doggin' it. Seeing who's taking the doughnuts thats all.
Merrit better have another half a second in him, which in the 400 is the difference between Webb's 1500m PR and a new World record.
One thing Wariner is smart about is season progression and brings it when it matters.
In case anyone didnt notice, he ran 44:07! If theres anyone in the world who can consistantly run around 44:00, its Wariner. He will be fine, no many will be able to be with him inder 44:00
