If you don't include injured athletes who are some of the athletes who failed to live up to their hot favorite billing?

the heat got to her; not the pressure.
Did you watch the Superbowl last season?
Kenenisa Bekele, Mombasa 2007 rates pretty high on the flop-o-meter.

uh...no. Maybe the pre-race hype had Americans thinking he could win it, but those in the know, knew he was no better than 3-5, realistically.

Did you actually read the original post? It said "favorite," and Prefontaine was definitely NOT the favorite in that race. Now, run along and take your immature trash-talking antics over to Xbox Live with the rest of your DyeStat buddies.
someone being shooed away from here to dyestat !?
where does someone too immature at dyesat get shooed away to ?
Steve Scott; 1984 Olympics in the 1500m. No, he wasn't going to beat Coe, but should have got the bronze.
How about Fernando Mamede who was 10000m WR holder going in to LA 1984 Olympics and just dropped out of the final after winning his heat.

Alan Webb, last year in Osaka. That was a big disappointment. He was ranked #1 coming off a 3:30 and a 1:43 and looked liked a shoe-in for a medal. Instead he was almost last in the final. I remember watching that just sitting at my computer going "Noooo, No! Aw crap man, no!"
Dan O'Brien, decathlon, 1992 Olympics Trials
Sergei Bubka, pole vault, 1992 Olympics
Yes, but given Webb's track record (no pun intended), not doing well when it counted wasn't a major surprise.
personally i don't think you can ever say someone flopped in a single marathon race...especially when the course and heat are wildly different than anything they raced before

In major champs he was kind of a fruit cake.
